350 miles and a check engine light?

Hey, I just took out my car for a drive and got a check engine light at 350 miles on the car. Im taking it to the dealer tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anybody came across the same problem when they were breaking in the car? I did a search but couldnt find any related topic.

Yeah - it's happened to quite a few - if memory serves, maybe there was someone who got the CEL on the way home!!!!

Go to the dealer tomorrow - right thing to do!

It happened to me. The OEM alarm was causing the CEL due to an energy drain after shutoff (locking door) It was fixed with an engine flash.

I wonder how long this car was on the dealer's lot...

...then again, could be the gas cap is loose.

yeah i got a cel 2nd week i had my car. took it in to the dealer and it turned out that the factory sets the computer to expect a certain engine temp before driving. mechanic reset the computer to a more reasonable expected temperature. havent had another one yet, knock on wood.

Guess you missed my post - https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=26489

CEL came on for me at about 450 miles, ended up with a new engine. Seems unlikely that your problem is that bad, but the good news is the new engine has fixed everything.

I got a CEL at 350 miles, which cleared on it's own after another couple days of regular driving. I got another one at 1200 ish miles, which didn't clear until I took it into the dealer... They returned it 4 hours later with a reflash, no CEL, and no real explanation.

A trip to the dealer is absolutley what's required here. Good luck!

OK, New Rx8 Owner...just picked it up 2 hours ago...and I got a CEL 2 miles from the dealer, on the way home! Given what I've been reading here for the last couple of months...no surprise.

(I had 25 miles on the car when it lit)

hmm, got to change that sig line....

Call back to the dealer and ask what code was stored in the PCM

Back to the Dealer (Mazda South, Austin...) this afternoon. PCM got updated. The Tech said it was a known problem in the software and that it had thrown a Catalytic converter code (thought it wasn't working?) I don't know what flash I had before, but it was Pre-L. I now have L or later as determined by the brake tap test. Can't find a programming sticker on the car anywhere. I'll look closer this evening.

The code was the infamous P0420..the car wants to see the front converter at certain amount of hydrocarbons and NOX. When the levels are not within the range it sets the light.

Mz had set the parmeter for this a little tight and the flash will address this.

BTW this was on the back on the 28.0.11 update to the WDS.

Edit..the stickers are really just a formality. If it's not visible it's probably not there. They don't pull the cover of the PCM to update it anyway..

THE DEALER'S SHOP SCRATCHED MY CAR! Less than 24hours old and THEY SCRATCHED MY CAR! I'm a little upset. Looks like someone kissed something with the side of the front bumper and scuffed and chipped the paint. Back to the dealer..again. I guess we'll see how good they are...they can fess up to it or just make it my word against theirs (and never see me there for service again).
I guess I learn the hard way to go over the car before leaving the lot...this sucks.
