3 Questions needing 3 answers???
Ok, so i have a 2004 RX-8 6spd grand touring and i am the second owner and have 77k miles. I have had it for about a year, put on 20k miles so far. So i had a few questions...
1) My check engine light had been on for the past month or so, and its the cadilac converter. I do not need to fix that correct? I live in Ohio and there are no longer emission tests. So is this ok? Cuz gettin it fixed at the dealer would be expensive.
2) I have 77k miles on it now, and was just wondering on average how long these awesome cars last? Mine has its 3rd engine now!! But it had been overall good to me.
3) I need new tires bad, i have bridgestone potenza's now, and realize they are expensive tires and was wondering what are some other good tires that run a little lower on price, and how much? Thanks alot!!!

He's as bad as Can
1, you can get a hi flow cat for under $500. A bad CAT can effect performance. Going with a midpipe is an other option if you can deal with the noise and smell. You will still have a CEL by the way with a midpipe.
2, I have 117,000 miles on my 8. My 1st engine went over 110,000 miles and could have gone longer. +1 on the premix.
3, Get THESE while they last.

1. If you don't have any emissions testing then get a straight pipe. The catalytic converter could get clogged and cause drivability issues like a loss of power.
2. Not sure, I think LambertRX8 has 150K or so.
3. Toyo T1-R 245/40/18 are great tires for general street use and pretty cheap compared to bridgestones.
Those S-03s expo posted are an awesome tire, if I needed some new tires, those would definitely be considered

Rotary Powered Countryboy
fix the cat because it will help out on the performance......treat the car right and it will last......I have Falken 452's on mine but they are high performance summer tires so if u plan on driving on snow or cold roads ubetter stick with the all seasons

Bring it to the dealer soon. The cat is an emissions component, and will be covered for 8 years/80,000 miles.

FIX THE CAT!!! My car had a sudden severe loss of power and my check engine light started blinking and I thought **** THERE GOES MY ENGINE!!! I freaked out, turns out it was the cat. Trust me, youll lose all performance if you dont fix that. Mine took a **** at 59,900 miles, just in time for warranty . Im still on my first engine -Knocking on wood very very hard- and it seems to be going strong. Ive had to fix 3 oil leaks but more than likely I caused that from driving aggressive. I have the kumho ecstaca and there were 101 per tire and theyve been great to me, its my second round with them, and Ill use them as long as theyre made. Id recommend a supercat, or midpipe.

pick up those tires from tire rack and have them mounted at performance allignment over in blue ash. bills the owner, hes a great guy and they their work is second to none
i also had a clogged cat and thought my engine was shot. get it fixed, its an easy enough job to do yourself.
