2500mi Road Trip
So I was driving from Ohio to Washington, took 3 days driving 12 hours each day to reach Seattle.
Day one: boring...driving through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and South Dakota. The great plains suck except for when it's 2am in the middle of nowhere on a straight interstate with nobody on the road reaching 140mph now that i think of it, I wish I got a picture of the speedo
Day two: Driving through South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. Fun except the slick slushy roads and being behind semi trucks that kick up masses of salt onto your windshield to where you can't see. I used up most of my inventory of wiper fluid and I need a car wash bad, damn salt. Also, my intuition that I needed new coils seem verified when there was some slight misfire around 7k rpm, oh well, they were due.
Day three: Driving through Montana, Idaho, and Washington. EXTREMELY FUN. Western Montana was absolutely beautiful with the mountains. Idaho was the most fun 70mi of driving I've ever had. Roads that wound and twisted with bone dry roads and little traffic. Taking some of those twists and turns at 80-90mph was exhilarating. Then in Washington about 100mi out of Seattle, I bared witness to a high speed police chase on the highway involving a pick up truck and masses of cop cars and a pair of helicopters with spot lights on the chase. The truck eventually was stopped by a road block across the entire interstate. Took a couple pictures of it all

2500.. fk that.
I just got done with a few trips from Norcal to SoCal and back. 2 weeks in a row back to back probably 1500-2000 worth of miles..
Lets just say, it'll be a while before I see anyone in LA/Victorville/SanDiego for a while..

I drove from Chicago to Daytona for the 24hr race 2 yrs ago. 18 hrs straight each way. I found music puts you to sleep. Talk radio keeps you awake.

Awesome Sounds like a ton of fun.
I know I have been building up all the needed plans for a trip of my own, though quite a bit farther with much less of a point.
2 weeks, ~8,000 miles, just me and my 8 loving up the road...
RI across the midwest (boring part) to Vegas, San Diego, up most/entire Pacific Coast Highway (hellllooo to 1200+ miles of twisties...) to Portland or Seattle, then back home across the north, Yellowstone (and more twisties), Montana (no upper speed limit on several highways...sign me up), Minneapolis, Chicago, etc... back home.
Around $1,300 in gas (calculated at $3.20 a gallon, who knows what it will be when I do it), 2 scheduled maintenance stops (as well as one before and one after), most hotel rooms would be free on saved points (hooray for company travel giving me rewards points), and I would probably want to time it to link up with some of the big meets, Vegas, LA, Washington, etc...
Course, my boss, his boss, and my VP know that I want to do it, and are open to the idea of helping me achieve what I want, so I might get lucky and be able to do it entirely on the company dime without taking vacation, and getting reimbursed $0.41 per mile...
Call me crazy, but the more I plan it the more I get excited about it. I love long drives anyway, done the Baltimore <-> Denver drive several times before my 8 and loved it. Do Providence <-> DC drive every couple months. It's really the Pacific Coast Highway I want to drive in my 8... so only real way of doing it and the fun along the way is driving out there and back myself, unless I ship my car (price can be way up, and doesn't allow timing the start/end very well), or rent/borrow one, and no place I know of rents out manual transmission cars, much less a rotory.
I doubt I would get one of you out there to loan me your 8 for the week to drive it to the other end and back
It's on my bucket list...within the next 2-3 years.

My route was from LA -> San Fran -> Reno -> Boise -> Canadian Border
The PCH was AMAZING !
not having seen the ocean before, the LA->San Fran journey along the PCH was breath taking.
your trip from SD -> Seattle will be even better
