2009+ MazdaSpeed RX8?

Hey Josh, any more recent insight on this? In this down economy probably a non-starter for MazdaUSA, but one never knows ....

I remember those pictures!
Gorgeous looking car but I suspect it's similar to our current Mazdaspeed line in that it's just for looks.

Unless there is a 16x stuffed under that engine cover, I'm not impressed.

Yep, the Mazdaspeed name should not be applied to what is for all intents and purposes a riced out 8.

I'd prefer to see a complete refresh, an RX-9 with a 16X, and perhaps the Mazdaspeed9 name on a turboed 16X.

The car is hot. Seats are hot. Wheels are hot. It's all hot. Nicely done.

I have the sentiments about the engine. 16x can't get here soon enough.

This confuses me. Isn't our intake virtually a "Cold air intake"? It's got the box to keep out the engine bay air, and we get our fresh air from behind the bumper.

Am I thinking of this in totally the wrong direction?

Yes, our stock intake really is a cold air, considering that the VFAD is on the exterior side of the engine bay, but it is somewhat blocked by the upper bumper. As there is a lag when the shutter opens around 4500 rpm many of us have opted to remove the VFAD for the RB Duct which scoops air thru the bumper grille, or of course a K&N cone filter type true CAI.

Back on topic, I too would like to see a true MazdaSpeed '8 setup with a turbo or blower, but at this point in time the 16X is the way to go.

What's with the chrome on the steering wheel..? Looks ugly. Doesn't even have Mazdaspeed branding on the trunk.

Which is why I commenced the thread by asking the OP (Altspace here and on the other linked Mazda board) if there was any update......

Again, probably a non-starter with the 16X [hopefully] in the development pipeline.
