2008 8 GT Auto - first 48 hours

My 08 Rx8 GT. Auto, in Sunlight Silver with 6,831 miles arrived from Delaware on Thursday. In service date of 11/23/2008 - so still have until Nov for warrranty , but mine has bumper to bumper extended for 100k.

Overall very happy - it has all options except Nav - and I got it for 20 out the door.

My impressions so far (coming from a 2008 G35S sedan). Power is smooth, handling is precise, not a dog but not my old GC SRT8. Even with the 306HP of the G - you had to get revs to get it moving. My 8 is pre-owned - by a woman - so a few door dings and scratches I did not expect...but I'll have those fixed soon enough. I'm very **** that way.

I checked all fluids, and am taking it to the dealership next week for "Service and overall Inspection" just to make certain everything is as it should be. It came from a cold state...so I'm wondering if I should put a new battery in just for good measure.

What I've done so far - 25mm spacers all around, all led bulbs, Dice ipod, strakes, EVO-X spoiler arrived yesterday...have to put it on, front splash guards, tint going in next week and a Smartmirror with nav and back up cam.

I won't be doing any engine mods. No problems with driving or starting...altho this morning after breakfast I had to crank it twice before it started. Not sure if that is normal.

I've been reading a lot - but most issues seem to be from pre-08's - so I'm still not clear on what applies to what.

With 6800 miles...I shouldn't have to worry about much, right?

Will post pics in a bit...was raining yesterday here in LA...so it's VERY dirty.

Everyone seems great on this forum...and I've had a lot of cars and been on a lot of forums!

Booo automatic!! Haha just had to say it!

Congrats on the purchase. If you do any power adders, a midpipe is a nice bump in power...

How exactly do you have an "extended bumper to bumper warranty" to 100k? Are you talking about the warranty Mazda put on ONLY the engine?

Probably a private warranty company, often an option when buying a used car from a dealership.

Xexok...the dealer threw in a MEPP to 100k (he quoted the cost at 1500....but who knows what he really paid) - Mazda Extended Protection plan...

This is my #45 in a long line of cars...so I'm adept at research and negotiation...and there was no way I was buying this car w/o a bumper to bumper...

Beodude...I get the "boo" on auto...but this is La...and my average MPH is usually 15mph....so a stick is just not an option for a daily driver...

Fair enough. Different strokes for different folks. I probably wouldn't want to drive stick in super traffic all the time either.

Here are the pics - crappy phone camera ones...and in my yard. Better ones to come.

Went to dealer for oil change and an overall inspection. She came back with a clean bill of health. Yea!

Hey! What's wrong with Sunlight Silver!?!? Kidding...

Ok...my only complaint so far is the rattles...that seem to come from everywhere. I guess when it's warmer I have a "strip the interior, sound deaden and line every piece where plastic meets plastic with felt" project.

I've searched but any hints on rattles will help.

Thanks!

Actually - the Evo spoiler is pretty good. I much prefer lip spoilers . Its on in the pic above. Fitament was about 95%. My only issue is the stupid drill hole from the factory spoiler. So I ordered bumper plugs to fit tin them until I can get it into the body shop to have the trunk made perfect...or....the other option being buying a sunlight silver trunklid off of ebay and just doing a swap.

I found one on Ebay...but they wamted 400 plus 150 shipping. I can have the tunklid fixed for less than that.

If anybody wants a SS factory spoiler...let me know.

Just put in my clear corners, and also BQuieted all four doors. Of all my cars (lots) the door panel removal for all 4 doors was the easiest I have ever done. Took me 2 hours to do all the above...

Next is the trunk, floor pan and under seats...but I ran out of sound deadening. I can already tell you quite the difference in "solidity" feeling.

Also ordered leather covers for the center two armrests and the parking brake. My Silver rails are way scratched from previous owner...was going to remove and paint....but decided to take to my sticker guy and have him vinyl them as well as the door pillars.

Will want to refinish the wheels and also paint the calipers.

Searched - but can't find the right thread for installing bulbs into the head lights. Tails are simple - will be putting in LED's.

More to come...
