2007 RX8 - 65,000 mile update (Synth, premix, Mazmart water pump installed)

I generally lurk and whatnot on this forum, but I figured I'd post my experience thus far up to 65k on my 2007 RX8, purchased February 14th, 2008 with around 500 miles already on it. I am located in Phoenix, so I've had 3 hot summers on the motor so far.

I've been premixing since 1,000 miles, and I am now on my third or fourth case of Idemitsu. I've been on Royal Purple 5-30 in the winter and 10-30 in the summer since 30,000 miles. Before that, it was Valvoline synthetic blend FROM the dealership. I've also replaced the transmission fluid a couple times, and the coolant once. I also frequently check oil consumption.

I took it to the dealer yesterday to get some work done and he wanted to do the de-carb TSB, as well as the compression/power test. I said OK. I was experiencing hard starting, as well as a CEL that flashed under a high RPM freeway run. Also, the service advisor indicated that he had replaced 5 motors last month alone, which sort of surprised me.

I had recently done the spark plugs and wires, (but not the coils) due to a rough idle (fixed). So I ordered Ignition coils from Mazmart, and the Remedy water pump - an upgrade I always wanted to do. Unfortunately, I do not have gauges, so I can't compare temps before/after the water pump, but the fan blades looked impressive. I also did the fuel injector service.

The compression test came back perfect, which I expected with my premixing, and no lack of power.

There was no other maintenance required.. my front brakes (original) are still in the green, with the rear brakes in the yellow, but they did indicate I should flush the brake fluid. Next time.

It actually pulls harder, and has a noticeable improvement in throttle response. I'm pretty sensitive to changes in the way the car behaves, so it almost feels brand new again.

I hope this helps people out there who are debating the synthetic and premix factors. It has worked for me so far, even in the hottest part of the country.

Glad to hear your car is running well. I am a big fan of premixing as well.
