TX 2004 rx8 trade in vs private sell

So I'm debating on trading in my car or try to sell it personally.
Power Steering is out(yes I cleaned out the harness and filed it but no luck) , the car isn't in the best shape but I'd say fair for 10 years old car (has scratches and bumps from i guess people opening their doors on my car).

Engine runs great and it has almost 110k miles on it. I have BHR starter, AEM intake, Tanabe hypermedallion exhaust and Axial Flow short shifter.

So I'm sure since power steering isn't working and I do not want to fix it (dealership quoted almost 2 grand for power steering rack replacement.) I am expecting 2 grand or so(towards buying a new car).

Would it be worth selling the car personally? because I've never sold cars before, I thought it might be a big hassle on my part and would take a long time :/

IMHO I think dealers will not give you as much if you sell it yourself.
They are always looking to make money first & foremost.
If they don't think they can sell it on their lot they'll send it to auction.
When the Cash for Clunkers deal was going on, I asked a dealer how much they would give me for my 95 Nissan 4x4, they said $500. I had just bought a set of A/T tires that cost that much.

You might get more with private sale. Sell it as-is as well...good luck.

Look up trade-in and private sale prices at kbb.com. See what carmax will give you. Then decide if selling it yourself is worth the trouble.

Fix the power steering and you'll get at least 5k for it on a private sale.

I've never seen crazier **** in terms of used cars than recently.

In many cases, new cars are cheaper to buy than the same model that's one year old, yet I've seen cars with 200,000 miles and beat to hell sell for $4,000.

yeah I'm thinking about fixing the power steering so I ordered the harness from mazmart and see if it works after installing it. I don't know about replacing the rack though lol I doubt that I can do it alone and I'm sure auto shops will want at least 500 in labor.

Trade in value is like 4600 for "fair" condition. I guess if power steering fixes I'll trade it in. I have around 5k to put as down payment on top of my car and since I do work everyday it would be more convenient for me to trade it in. hopefully 4k for car(if power steering works) and 5k down towards buying 4x4 crew max tundra with msrp for 37k. From what I've heard I can get it down to 32k with title and tax for 2013 models (since 2014s are coming out soon) and hopefully get a loan for 23~24k haha.

I'm sick of worrying about my 8 having another breakdown lol I'll take that 25k toyota complimentary care!!!
