2004 Mazda RX8 Presumably ABS Issues but dont know

Let me start off by saying I love this car. I have owned well north of 40 cars and nothing handles and drives like this car. It puts a smile on my face everytime I start it and accelerate it and puts a bigger one on my face when I enter 25mph turns at 55 and the car begs me to push it faster and faster.

I bought my 04 RX8 used with 35k on it last week. The only concern is periodically the ABS, Traction Control and E=Brake light will come on randomly and turn off and act like nothing is wrong on next start up. Doesnt seem to affect driveability, but the problem remains. The dealer did have to replace warped rotors prior to purchase.

Just wondering if anyone here has had a similiar thing happen and what was the fix. The two times in the last week it has done it when I was driving on a straight road doing 25-35mph.

Thanks for any advice anyone has to offer.

not to discredit your car knowledge in any way at all, seeing as mine isn't all that great, but that light will come on if your brake fluid is just moving below the minimum also, so check that first if you haven't

The way you say its coming on and off randomly kinda tells me that i could be this.....worth a check anyways before you start looking at mechanical components.

Would the low brake fluid cause all 3 lights to come on? (ABS, Traction control and ebrake light)

oh no..sorry didn't realize it was all 3 lights. Yah definitely sounds like something at one of the wheel assemblies. Something probably didn't get tightened down when the replaced the rotors. Can't you just take it back and have them inspect it?

already tried that, they said they don't have the scanner that reads the abs computer. The light came on only twice, the first time i took it back and they said they tightened a few components of the brakes and it didnt come back on till yesterday. When it did i pulled over turned the car off and back on and no lights. So, at best, its a dodgy problem.

Not a mazda dealership, but the standard scanner doesnt read it. I have a 2004 with only 35800 miles on it. Is this thing still under factory waranty?

it depends on the purchase date of the vehicle. I have an 04 and my warranty ended in Feb 09.

The dealership will be able to tell you by VIN if you're under warranty.

But don't ask if you ARE under warranty. Ask when your warranty expires. If they say it has expired, ask for the expiration date and the purchase date of the vehicle.

The first time I asked if my vehicle was under warranty, they told me no...after research, I found that it was.

I wouldn't waste any time either, you would only have until the end of the year max. I can't remember if the original warranty was extended to 5 or 6 years. If it was 6, you might still have time depending on original purchase date.

Good luck!
