hey.
delete this thread. and use another title
something other than bragging off your age.
when i got my 8
all i did was say hi to people on here.
and did not report my age
here's one "New member!, any tips?"
do you see any of us young drivers on here posting "(16 or whatever you consider young)/ rx8 with lots of mods" or "16/ just got Volks"
what's the point?
you really want tips from us?
just read around. or take my advice on titling your threads
because from the looks of it. some of us already can see that you just wanted to brag off about your age.
and if youre going to say anything about me? i am not much older than you

Dude, what the **** is your problem, you're running around calling this guy out as a douche?

Take a step back and look at what you're saying, even IF that guy is here to "brag" about how his parents bought him a nice car and that he's only 16, why does it matter to you? Acting like a complete asshat infront of people on this forum isn't going to deter people from coming here and making more posts such as this one.

Secondly, how is this bragging? A post saying hi to everyone, asking for some tips, and posting pictures is automatically bragging? What the hell? What is it with some of you people? Stick in your ***? This guy did nothing to warrant this kind of behavior from anyone.

Who isn't going to report there age? I got my 8 when I was 19 I think, and I'm pretty sure I put that in my post, and even if I had been 16 I would have too. It's a way of greeting yourself to people on a forum, and most commonly the internet.

Ever heard of asl?

Honestly this is nothing short of being jealous of someone that has it better than you...What do you want him to say? Apologize for feeling comfortable enough to actually post his age?

I'm not tired of the welcome threads from 16 year olds, they own the car just like we do, they need to know the facts just as us. Just as the ADULTS that come here, they too need to be let know of the search function. They're no different than anyone else here.

What I am tired of are the jerks that come in here and complain about the person bragging or showing off there car because of their age. It's okay for a 30 year old guy to come here and show us pics and say hello, but it's a huge crime when a 16 year old does it?

So anyway, back to the question at hand, what the hell is the problem here? Ocra, j67? Care to weigh in?

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure if he wanted to brag, he would have added "LOLZ I'M 16 AND THAT PLANE IN THE BACK IS MINE TOO! LOLOLOL"

Shini calm the **** down......I'm sure Leon would be nicer to the guy if it wasn't for the other 4 ******* Threads below this one, seriously, even IF the ****** don't know how to search, seeing 4 freaking threads of the same title on the main page could of at least deter him from making another 1?

the problem here, Shini, is that both me and Leon are still teenagers with 8s too, and we are kinda pissed that people come in here and make dicks out of themselves for being young and with 8s..........I for one don't see a problem with that..........but just don't act like such a dick

to quote Jethro Tull "What you have done, has been done before, there is nothing special about it"

jesus, please delete this thread

I'm calm, you think I actually sit behind my screen typing anything on this forum seething in anger where I make awkward grunts and noises?

The problem here is, none of them have made dicks out of themselves, the only LOL I'M 16 WITH AN 8 YAY thread that was constructed in such a fashion was made by a member, I don't remember any of these 16 year old threads having someone walking in here being a huge dick, and even if one of them slipped by and I hadn't read it, it doesn't mean you have the right to just waltz into other 16 year olds who are getting the car and just bash them about being young with the car.

The irony in this is, you're ragging on some guy that hasn't even done anything wrong yet, saying he's a ***** when your friend there is acting in the same fashion that he's "tired of seeing it".

And like he is going to know about the search button? Not everyone gets a course in internet forums before registering on the site, you're going to see reposts and multiple people coming in saying hi and asking the same questions. It's part of what being a forum is.

I'm sure you knew about the search function when you first came here?

I still fail to see how "Hey guys, 16 with a new 2004 Black MT 8, just wanted to ask some of the people who have had the car for awhile if theres any tips I should know about the car." = Bragging and or being a ***** and or being spoiled (How are we to know he didn't in some way pay for it, or work his *** off for it.)

And not to burst anyones bubble, but aside from the joke thread we had, there's been two 16 year old threads in this part of the forum in the past couple of weeks.

A search for "16 year old" brought up nothing more than those 2 threads, and other threads they were referenced to.

So no Taja, it isn't 4 threads below this one. - Actually I had to go all the way to page three to even find the most recent one.

What people are probably thinking of is how long that one thread lasted and don't care to see another one drag out.

But guess what I'm going to let you all in on a tip.

Tired of reading these threads? THEN DON'T READ THEM!

OMGOMGOMGOMG. NO WAI SHINI IT CAN NOT BE THAT EASY! NO FREAKIN WAI!

It is.

Unless your arm is being twisted and you're forced to read this, then stop bitching and just over look them next time and let the people who actually care about welcoming people and giving them some help and getting them adjusted to using search read these and posts.

Edit: Did a search for "young driver" and I found a whole three more, one that was posted 5 months ago and another that was 2 weeks, and one that died just as soon as it came that was a week before that.

My credit card debt actually would show you that I paid for my computer myself

My dad hasn't actually gotten me anything in the last few years, just the occasionally pair of shoes they bought while they were at the mall or some shirts they get me as gifts from when they go out of town.

And I am making a living in this world, 40 hours a week at my job, going to school next semester (parents are not paying for it), and the only thing I don't have to pay for on my own is my car.

As far as my time goes, I don't do much on Sunday nights, so I just surf the internet for awhile. And it really wasn't that much time at all considering how fast my wpm is

I don't see how that doesn't make me as serious as anyone else, but more power to you. Maybe someday you'll grow up, have kids, and what the best for them like mine did.

I'm sorry my parents love me?

I am grown up, I do have kids, I do want the best for them and I will never buy them a high powered sports car even though I could easily. You're to young to understand what a poor choice this can be. You giving to much HP to a mind that is not fully developed in risk avoidance. Your not teaching the value of money and hard work. Your installing a sense of entitlement. The list goes on but you get the idea.

I do not get all these posters saying their age? Does it matter? Its the level of maturity but if you really need to brag the age you got a car at, that definitely does not qualify as mature. My first post, I did not have to mention my age. I actually did not sound like a completely spoiled brat and DEFINATELY did not ask for tips, I researched the car beforehand (makes me mature (pats self on the back :-P)). Anyways, at least the Rx-8 is a car one would care about as a first car. It's nice and comparably does not have that much horsepower. At least most teenagers do not get Lambos (i remember one topic... Wtf...). And if the parent can afford it why not? It is their choice. Not necessarily the smartest choice but hey everyone does stupid stuff. I agree with Shini to some extent that they aren't outwardly bragging but still why even bother posting one's age?

I explained in the other thread the financial situation I'm in, in a nutshell though I almost got kicked out of my apartment, got duped into paying an extra months rent when it was my roomate that was the one suppose to be paying that cost, not me, I work 40 hours a week, go to school (parents don't pay for it).

I know the value of money and hard work, and the RX-8 is not a high powered sports car.

My Trans Am was, and that wasn't a great idea. I did get into some trouble with that car, nothing serious, just some speeding tickets that I got dismissed. Which I paid for on my own.

The only thing my father did for me was get me the car, it's not like I have everything else handed to me on a silver platter, and it's not like any of the other 16 year olds have it that easy either. W're not even sure if this guy has a job right now and is helping pay for the car.

Most adults, will feel that a teenager is too young for a sports car. But you do have the right to have one, and that is that. There is a reason young drivers pay more for insurance. And there is a reason I will not let my girls go for a ride, with a boy driver.

But again you do have the right to own one.

And also, the Rx-8 isn't really the most expensive car on the block. My school has had three Rx-8s so far. And there is one right across the street from the school. One was with a student two years ago, I have one, and some junior has the last. They all black which has led to some confusion. The last kid is actually a spoiled brat and complains that the Rx-8 isn't really his car but his Porsche Cayman is his and that is all he talks about (he has gotten stuff poured over his car, I think I got some of it due to the confusion :-().
Again, I know I am spoiled. Take what you can get. If 20k was offered to you would you say no? If you won the lottery would you say no because you were lucky? I do not brag about my car and I spend the time to take care of it.

+1. Well said Raptor. And as EclipseGSX said, "I don't take anyone who had their parents buy their cars seriously."

Also, I'd like to reiterate my call to set up a subforum here for the sub-18 year olds. Those of us who are old farts can't take much more of this. SLOW DOWN...DAMN KIDS!

Some people introduce themselves by adding their age in, just to let people know what age group they're in.

It use to be common practice to ask someones age on the internet, and it still is in some places, it's just a way of introducing yourself.

How are you going to ask "why even bother posting one's age", when there are threads that ask people how old are you, there's even a poll for it. It's obvious people want to know old you are, why not just let them know?

I can see why adding your age is a little odd, but I don't see how it automatically makes you a brat, spoiled, or a *****.

Some people add their age in, some people don't, adding in your age doesn't mean you're trying to brag and be a punk.

And how the hell are you going to get on someone about coming to a car forum to ask for tips? What is wrong with that? What if there's some weird flaw in the car and to get it to get it to start smoother you have to have the wheel turned slightly to the left, rub the hood twice, counter-clockwise and then stare at for 20 seconds without blinking.

Something like that would never be in a car manual, he's just asking for tips on something people found out about the car over the years while driving it. Researching the car is only going to show you the "OH sh*t they lied about HP figures, and the 04's had a lot of recalls!", it might not however inform someone about premixing, or a certain colder a/c mod that was listed here.

He probably wasn't asking for facts about the car that can easily be asnwered by cracking open the user manual, but something that people figured out while driving the car and in a collective efffort found a way around it or a solution to it. Like maybe some rattles and things like that. Or to make sure that you redline it atleast once a day, and that the white foam that collects on the dip stick is just condensation and to get rid of it you just drive the car hard for a little awhile and it goes away (rather than mazda telling you, oh it's normal, don't worry about it.).

So instead of actually giving him tips people just shunned him away saying he's bragging about his age, and no one even bothered to help him.

Stewie says he's sick of the people that come here with the 15,000 Used 8's, I'm pretty sick of people with sticks up their asses judging everyone and instead of helping them, just shooing them away in a collective manner then bitching about how annoying it is.

There's tons of "tips" about the car that you aren't going to know unless you ask a season rotary owner, or encounter them yourslef.

And sure you could say search for them but until he goes through the problem he's not going to know what to be looking for.

So again, how is sayig "16 year old 8 owner looking for some tips on how to keep the car maintenced and in good shape" bragging? I fail to see how letting everyone know your age and asking for tips abou the car and what to do to keep it maintained is bragging, saying "Hey guys I'm 16 and my parnets bought this car for me lol, I didn't pay a dime for it, and I don't pay for anything actually, lol" is bragging.

Hell who knows, there was another 16 year old joke thread that passtheapathy made around the sametime this one was up, maybe he thought that was the norm of the forum and figured he'd go with the flow. In which case, you guys have no one to blame but yourselves for this one :p

But there is an FYI that includes all the information one needs about the car. Most introduction posts say "Hi, Ive been stalking the forum for a year and I finally got the car." Instead he still asks something most people already know before getting the car.

Okay, but with him being 16, you're assuming that he's the one who went to the dealership, and pick out the car.

What if he came home one day and, SURPRISE! No way he's going to be able to lurk the forum for a year then, or be able to research ahead of time.

So what do you do? google rx8 like I did when I got mine, found the forum, signed up, and asked for tips.

(Mine was less flame filled, but hey, we can't all be winners )

And again, you said thats how "most" people introduce themselves, most people lurk for awhile, so if he doesn't actually know anything about the car, and the forum refuses to give him any useful information because he's 16 and they think he's bragging about his age, then where else is he going to go? Find another rotary forum and hope they aren't jerks like the rest of us?

If he is guilty of being part of the purchase of the car and didn't research it at all ahead of time, then it may not be the smartest thing to do, but maybe his parents did research on the car, but he just wanted to know some tips for daily driving and things. Or maybe neither the parents or the kid did research and, and gosh darnit the car was such a good drive they just wanted to take it home and then learn more about it.

90% of the people that come here probably don't use the search button at first. They have to be reminded about it, this is a forum, it's not a google database, no one automatically goes to a forum and thinks "I bet this is a great place to search for more knowledge about my car!", they think "Oh cool rx8club.com, fellow owners, I'm sure they know tons about this car and could give me a few tips about it. I think I'll sign up."

Shini,

I highly respect your posts in this thread. Once again, there are a bunch of threads (very mature, I might add) about sexing it up in the 8, hawt guys and girls and their 8's, there are post your pic threads, etc. Some of the 16-year olds are more mature than us adults (no particular reference to anyone). I find that some people here think they own the place since they've been around longer and know how to post funny smilies. But it still all comes down to community in which we help each other out, give advice, get advice, and ... yeah ... vent. It's too easy to flame somebody to show aggressiveness or power but it's just a sham. I actually enjoy the flames (long as I'm not receiving it too much) but really I'm constantly amazed at the immaturity. I'm a high school science teacher and I see plenty of that in my day job so when I come here, I'd like to actually "learn" something about rx8's. If I want a real laugh or cry I'll go to the Lounge.

BTW, I'm 45 and my parents didn't buy me the 8. But who the **** cares who bought it? When I was young, my parents bought me dinner, clothed and housed me. Should I have had to pay for all that just to prove myself? If someone is lucky to have loving parents that trust them enough to buy an amazing car for them ... all I can say is, lucky bastard! And good for you, just don't screw up.

I don't mean any disrespect to the long-standing posters here and I laugh at all the dicking around. But there's no reason to be mean to someone who is 16, has the same car as us, and wants to join the club. Except maybe when they post huge-*** pics!
