You may wish to look at some of the car clubs in your area. Some use old airports to do auto cross. The runway makes a good place for speed runs. Some small airports don't have much traffic and the airport manager may help you get permission.

I've been looking for graphs of RPMs to velocity!! Are these numbers in the shop manual? I just got mine, but it's a HUGE volume and I haven't had a chance to page all the way through it yet. If not in the shop manual, where can I find the numbers to do the comps for all the gears?

Thanks,

Test Drive...

Well, considering I have only test driven one so far. I made sure I found a used one past the break in period so I could really feel it. I started the drive around town and even the salesman was impressed. He had never been in it before. We took an extra long test drive... because he took the wheel for one lap. He was going nuts. Anyways, when he gave me the wheel back, I accidentally got up to 110 in 4th! I could have sworn I was going 80. So smooth. My mustang would have blown up at 4th at that speed! Good thing the salesman was cool about it. You cant see the speedo from there anyways. Helps when the girlfriend is in the car.

128 mph just short of redline in 4th ...

What's fun about this is that this was attained in a full-throttle accelleration run in about 3/4 of a mile up from 65 mph - I downshifted to third, pulled redline (about 85 or so), then up to 4th and pulled as long as I had room ... jumped off the gas and glanced down - the 128 was showing on the speedo ... and I was still in 4th, just short of the redline.

Chicago folks - great place to try a quick high speed blast, that's pretty safe (although be prepared to be on the brakes) is on the off-ramp from the I-94 Edens Expwy spur to Deerfield road (north/westbound on I-94). That ramp peels off to the right and drops into a three-lane wide tunnel under northbound I-94 - it gives you about 3/4's of a mile to really take off before you need to get back on the brakes as you emerge from the tunnel. The downhill into the tunnel helps the speed gain up, you can see the entire distance in front of you and there's no place for a cop to hide ...

But, not a place for an extended run ...
