10hp instantly??

I know a guy who works at mazda who says that you can get an instant 10 hp or so by simply turning off the DSC...that is to say you get your 238 hp after turning off the DSC, whereas we've been driving around with only 228 hp with it on. Has anyone heard of this? Someone mentioned here that you have to press the button and hold it for 7 seconds to completely disable it so give that a try. I havn't really noticed any diffference but 10 hp is hard to notice. If anyone has a G-tech pro, give it a try and see what readings you get.

Not gonna happen. Period. Find yourself a new advisor (one who knows what he is talking about).

I've heard that there's more (not specifically 10) hp. But can't tell by the "seat of the pants" gauge.

I apologize for all these hooters making cracks on you bro. Dealers across this vast nation sometimes say these stupid little fibs. They are salesman, so they are very used to being sneaky and lying. But I believe this crap mostly comes from rumors and tales with no proof, and the salesmen (and saleswomen, oh yea) just throw it in to MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SELLING.

And of course, people like you believe them. So it will never stop. I straight up left a dealership one time because this lady was so full of that stuff that comes out of the buttholes of bulls.

Seriously, turning DSC off is for TURNING FUN. Plain and simple. It is dangerous in traffic because this car loves to spin and slide, but if you want to let loose some place that is SAFE and/or CLOSED OFF, take the DSC off and go at it. Basically, it is another safety feature, and turning it off will not net more HP. Better quarter times can be expected with it off because no limits are put on the wheels durring launch.

I personally am going to stop turning the DSC off. I made myself look like an a$$hole more than a couple times. Not proud at all.

Good luck to ya.

Nate

A good long press.........

You guys are really stupid.

It's an electronic switch.

No gain in HP either.

Do you you know how to operate a screw driver and wrench?

The car does feel like it has more power when the DSC is turned off completely, but whether this translates to the computer restricting power output by as much as 10hp is questionable.

Maybe someone who has dynoed the 8 can shed some light on this matter since to me, it certainly does feel as though the car is more "lively" with the DSC off completely.

Are all salesman generally this stupid, or is it they have such a lack of respect for the consumer that they just say whatever comes to mind?

When I purchased my car, the guy insisted there was a high power model with a 1.8 liter engine, but that they didn't have one on the lot, and what a "shame it is that you won't get to drive that one." I didn't want to put up with his crap, and told him rather politely that there was no such thing.

The worst part was, this was after I presented my corporate discount, gave him the VIN of the car I was there to buy, and informed him it would be my third rotary and he didn't need to give me the sales pitch. Yet it wasn't too much after all this that I was told the car accelerated faster than a new 911.

If you're talking about having the DSC off, I totally agree with this.

It's been raining in Sydney pretty much non stop for a few days and I've been driving with the DSC on.

The fuel gauge is rapidly decreasing and I seem to have covered less mileage.

I've tried both, and haven't seen any mpg increase nor have I noticed any additional power.

If you do the 7 second off, I've heard it registers an error code, so if you trash the car, they may use that against you.

My switch is either on or full off, no in between for me.
Maybe that's why I notice a difference in both "power" and "fuel economy" or could it just be a placebo effect?

Its amazing what dealers tell you. I had a sales manager who operates a White 05 with most of the Mazdaspeed stuff on it including a cat back and told me the cat back gives it 25 more hp. Then a salesman there told me the DSC compenstates slipping wheels but kicking in the front wheels. I asked him, "oh so the front wheels have drive shafts.?" He said yes. I looked at the front suspension and I certainly didn't see any drive shafts attached. So yes, these are same guys who would like to sell you beach front properties in Arizona. Now that being said, I have seen other threads where some owners have said to turn off the DSC so you can get better gas mileage.

All flames aside, the real answer is - yes and no. On the road, in the real world - NO, turning off the DSC will make absolutely no difference to the engine output.

ON A DYNO - YES, turning off the DSC WILL result in a higher HP reading. Not because the engine is actually making more power, but because the ECU is too smart, and sees the rear wheels spinning while the front wheels are stationary, declares that a problem, and reduces engine power when DSC is on. So, that result (DSC off making more power) is a totally artificial situation where the ECU reduces power on a dyno because of the wheel speed differences. Again, on the road, that doesn't happen, and DSC will make no difference to power output.

Regards,
Gordon
