But a Civic Si? Get real people. A stock Civic is just not that fast. A manual 8 would smoke a Civic Si, and EVEN an auto '06 8 would likely beat an Si, although it would be close. The auto is slower than the manual. That's a given. But its not that slow.
That's because many car forums are just a giant circle jerk of people stroking each other's egos for how great each other are for buying such an amazing car. The demographic of the people interested in this car are relatively normal, rational people that can give and hear both sides. Also, the forum rules, as given by rational moderators, allow for a relatively civilized discussion.

In other words, we're teh awes0me.

who cares which one can win in a drag?

neither car is meant to drag, or built for drag racing.

The civic si was built to be an econobox that had a bit more zip than a regular old boring Civic.

The RX8 was built as a sports car, with the capability to "moonlight" as a sedan if necessary.

both have a similar power to weight ratio...and the similarities stop there.

If I was driving up/down the freeway, trying to maximize my mpg...I'd take the Si.

If I was about to go on a spirited drive on a twisty mountain road and wanted to have fun.. I'd take the RX8.

any way you slice it, an RX8 is going to be more fun to drive than a Civic.

You seem concerned with who would win in a "drag". You should worry more about what you need a car to do, and whether it does what you need. I am looking for a FUN car which is why I haven't even considered an Si, but why I am thinking of buying an RX8.

I can find you plenty of cars that will smoke BOTH a civic AND an RX8 in a drag race, that will be absolutely NO FUN to drive whatsoever... heck.. my commuter car.. is an older volvo turbo... with 125k miles on it..and it will roast an 8 in the straight...it weighs only about 3200 lbs and is pushing close to 260hp. would I rather drive that car over an 8. NOPE.

when you are 19 all you think about is speed. well..not true..all you think about is sex... but if you are momentarily thinking about cars, while your brain is taking a break thinking about sex...then all you car about is speed. once your brain is no longer intoxicated with youth, hormones, and stupidity... you discover there are more important things than 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

I was up against a Si just a couple days ago. Not sure what speed we started out at. It started when he was in front of me. He passed the car in front of us and then he took off, so he had a headstart about 3 cars length. I was in 3rd gear and I switched over 2 lanes, and had him on my rear tire, then I went into 4th gear. He stayed on my rear tire until I stopped at 110mph. Yes, I have an auto.
