I would keep the Mini and get the John Cooper Super Charger for it. Put some new wheels, lowering springs, etc. and you are set. Mini is built by BMW, so you know you have a great car for a long time. The RX-8 doesn't come close to the build quality of the mini, and would get blown away by the mini s in the slalom. They are both good cars, but I would stay with the BMW mini. Or maybee get a 3er coupe?

Does that make sense?

My friend just settled the Lemon Law on his Cooper S. His tranny was never fixed right, engine troubles and his windshield cracked for no reason 4 times. He had his leather seats replaced after 5k miles because the leather on the seats got real loose.
The problems we both had were not unusual and many others had the same issues.
About the JC Works... I though about getting the Works but the price ended up being more than the RX8.

The biggest problem for me is the maintenance and cost of parts once the warranty runs out. They wanted $300 for a TIRE and another $300 for a rim. The tire was a runflat, and yes got me home after I ran over a nail (all of 1/4 of a mile), but for $250, I bought a complete set of mini wheels/tires off of ebay. The maintenance costs of this car will surely kill me once the warranty runs out since they don't seem to understand that the car is a 20k car, not a 60k car, yet they charge 60k prices for maintenance/parts. Not that most dealerships aren't bad, but BMW is VERY closed about 3rd parties working on their cars. Try to get a shop manual...

gixxer,
Have you even broken in your car yet?
BTW what were you using to measure your times? Were you at the track or using a greddy tool?
I assume you have no modifications and a L or M flashed car?

I was disappointed with the numbers my gtech was showing me so I chucked it to the ground as hard as I could. After I hooked it back up, my times were a lot better even though butt dyno was no different at all. Thanks gtech!!!

my gtech matched my 1/4 times from the track to within .1s every time. 0-60 was always in the spec'd range when stock and slightly under when modded.
the thing with the Gtech is consistency. it may not be dead accurate, but it is consistent. you MUST mount it right.

i bought it from gtech. at least i think.
the thing works on G-forces. It MUST be mounted STABLE and HORIZONTAL to work. Vibrations are going to throw it off, as are front to back "rocking" motions. Also, rev-match when you shift (As best you can) as "bucking" the car will throw it off, too.

I've had a few GTechs before and I've found that the most consistant results come from mounting it in the center of the car and not the windshield. With the RX8 it could be mounted on the center tunnel behind the shifter. Use 3M double sided foam tape and be sure to level it on a level ground.

On the center console between the shift boot and cup holders. This way it will lay flat. It will be harder to read after the runs but it will be more consistant and accurate. Use the foam tape to level it.

rotary-convert, I used an accelorometer. It is supposed to be accurate to around 1/100 of a second. My car only had about 800 miles on it. Now it has 1200. No mods yet but I have a typhoon on order.
