*Sigh* Any help?

Well, I am more of a reader on this forum rather then a poster. I have owned my 06 8 for around 6 months now. This past week I started feeling something different as I was driving. I'd press the gas after I shifted, and the RPM gauge would start to climb faster then normal, and then sink back down and gradually climb again. So tonight on my way home from the arena, the car had enough, and she hardly moves. I press the gas, the cars RPM goes up (I'm not slamming the gas but going lightly), it sits around 5000rpm doing 10km/h which is not normal, so I let it back down and parked it until I know whats wrong. When I came to a stop on my journey home, there was a fair amount of white smoke coming from under the hood. I am no car expert in any way so any help on what the problem is would be appreciated. I am going to get it towed in the next few days, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem may have been before I get it towed to Mazda.

tl;dr
- car rev's high and doesn't move
- car started to smoke white smoke from under the hood
- car is done for the season

Thanks for the help!

Relax. The clutch is wasted and the dealer may try to blame you. However, the rest of the car is fine.

Sounds like your clutch is done but it just doesn't make sense unless;
1) you ride the clutch as you drive
2) the clutch was somewhat done when you bought it
3) the clutch was not adjusted correctly
4) multiple above

Car was brand new when I got it, I am new to standard, but I was not ridding it. Just not sure. Hope its fixed soon. Appreciate the help!

And 'MyEnemy' tl;dr is used on some forums that I have been apart of, and its Too Long; Didn't Read. So basically a summed up version .

Thanks!

Can you really burn out the clutch in 6 months of regular driving?

Need More Help PLEASE! Towed today to the dealership and I have a feeling they are charging me a bit to much. They claim the back tires have been heavily abused and are completely worn out (remember I am not a genius with cars so I am not sure how to check it). Me being 17 also doesn't give me any credibility because the typical stereotype of irresponsible teenagers. Anyways back on track. So tires are "worn down" and clutch is gone. They are estimating upwards of $5000Cdn for the repairs. They will not cover it under warranty because it was "abused", and I cant really take it anywhere to get another estimate because I will need it towed. Anyone have any idea on a price I should be getting around? Or am I forced to dish out the $5000?

tl;dr
- Dealer claims back tires were abused and completely worn out
- Clutch is shot
- They want $5000 for repair
- To much? Or right price?
- HELP!

Thanks!

How many kms on the car? do you do many burn outs on starts? How fast do you take corners and do you see the DSC light come on when you take them quickly?

Cuz my friend who got an 05 said the stock tires suck and that I'd have to replace them in less than two yrs.

15000km on car (its my daily driver). I've done a total of 3 burnouts in the entire ownership of the car. I take corners at a decent speed but not stupid maybe 70-80km/h around a 50km/h. DSC Light has never come on when I am driving.

What are the tires? Potenzas or Dunlops?

I've never done a burnout, and after 10000km I noticed considerable wear on mine, and one little spin on a road that had a little too much gravel.. mine are the Dunlops..

Stick an american(sorry it's my only tool) penny in the tread of the tire, Head first. The remaining tread should cover his whole head. If not, the Tires should go.

Canadian and American Dollars are basically par with each other now, so that is FAR too much. A clutch is an expensive repair, but not like that. $2k seems like a lot to me for both replacements. $5k is astronomical.

Tires were not rotated at 12000, the car was going in for a pre-storage tune in less than 2 weeks. Clutch was not dropped on the car. I'm driving on the stock potenza's. And it was a $5000 worst case scenario, and that is for the clutch only, not tires.
Car is being towed back home, I am not going to have the replacement done by them. I have found stock Mazda Clutch kits ranging from $500-1300 so I am not paying a $3500 installation cost. As well I later called back from my cell (so they didn't know it was me and they quoted me $1500 installed for an entire brand new kit). Sad that it is that much cheaper. I appreciate everyones help on this!

Thanks!

Check around for a Mazda specialist.

You can get a new clutch and install for 1200 USD

Skip the tires. Replace them when you have money. You can get them at
tire rack.com

To clarify post 13, if you can see his WHOLE head, you're in need of tires. Check here - http://www.carcare.org/Tires_Wheels/tread.shtml

A new clutch should cost about $400. This is what I got - http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/actrx8.htm. Labor should run you no more than $1000.

Research tires around this website. I have a feeling the dealership is trying to sell you the stock tires at an inflated price. You can get better tires for cheaper if you take a second to look around.

Seriously, you need to learn a little about the RX8 and probably cars in general before you get taken for a ride.

That is why I resorted to the place that offers a lot of knowledge. The cost is does NOT include tires. I am replacing my tires in the spring. Although I have limited knowledge about the car, and cars in general, I do a little research before I toss away that much money. Ill check the tires when the car gets back home. Once again thank-you.

whoa, 5K?! that's highway robbery.

I vote for buying a clutch somewhere else and having CRH do the swap for you. That guy is amazing with our cars.
