Just to be the devil's advocate: in case of electrical and/or power failure, the sudden added "weight" to the steering wheel and the brakes can seem like they lock up to someone who is not used to plain mechanical systems...

Since the post originator hasn't returned, my theory is:
He downshifted during the turn, screwed up the downshift and locked the rear wheels, perhaps stalling the car at the same time. Locking rear wheels in the middle of the turn isn't something DSC can correct, and the stalled engine would end power steering etc.

All that assumes the story isn't a pure fabrication in the first place.

Thumbs down

Another Thread title used to create distraction and stir up bad feelings for our car. If the power steering system is electrical then it should still have battery power to run on if the car died correct?

Also if the road was wet, say when it was raining out, or had loose gravel on it, the car could easily slip out and no amount of computer controlled intervention will create artifical traction.

Have you taken the car to the Mazda dealer to diagnose what happened? If something as catestrophic as you say happened the computer would have a record of the malfunctions and the dealer would definitely want to get the information.

If you don't have any more information to back up the story then I am suspicious...

All these bashing threads always have a common statement. "I know there are many recalls on this car."

I once took a turn on a sunny day in H-town... Temp was about 90, as I took on the U-turn below Beltway 8 (right next to 45)... I downshift too 2nd and hear the engine slow the car down... I entered the turn at around 40 (with nearly bald tires ) and smash both right wheels into the curb....

Now that I have new Goodyear F1's I could probably take the turn at that speed with no sliding (unlike bald chitty tires), but I learned my lesson that taking a turn to fast and steep can flip you into a f-ed up situation

i call bullshit as well on this...i never mentioned it on this board but once i had the power go completely out on me...imnot going to go into what mods i have, or what situation it was in but i was moving at a decent amount of speed and was able to coast the car to a stop after a turn.....the car was heavy as a brick and not as easy to stop but nothing locked, i was able to turn without power steering, and i was able to use manual brake power from a relatively high speed......the car started right back up...i took out a mod i think may have did it and i tightened all the electrical down since.....has never happened again..but long story short i actually had a power loss and none of this happened.....

I don't think the fact that his name is "SoCalRS4" is helping his story sound terribly credible either. Funny that someone who drives an Audi would troll this message board claiming poor reliability.

yes they do i had these on my 8, i had my pcd changed then had to get some metal skimmed off the wheels where the wheel sits on the hub cos they were not in line with the fenders they were sticking out the sides a little.
