365 day Rx8 REW build.

...

RX8Soldier 03-15-2012 10:31 PM

That's a good plan! It's how I've been planning a (hopeful) turbo build for NEXT summer :)
I say this with all sincerity: I hope you don't forget about this and follow through with your instal! Seen too many members either not follow through, or else just don't update.

Engine looks good. Who is doing the engine build/porting?
Good luck with your build!

jayscoobs 03-16-2012 02:41 AM

subscribed. GL with the build. Can you please document and take pics and make a build thread. Would like to see all thats involved.

bse50 03-16-2012 03:26 AM

Looks like the engine was in fairly decent condition!
Good luck with the build and have fun :)

EightCostsMoney 03-16-2012 06:50 AM

Coolness, I willl be watching this thread. Good luck!!!

ELI063 03-16-2012 01:58 PM

O yea Man nice!! And what they said^^^

O and nice work stations wish I had that much room for my 8 :)

fastlaneracing 03-16-2012 02:04 PM

What power level are you shooting for?

Are you going to swap out the trans and rear axle?

How are you going to tune it and mate it to the RX-8 PCM?

9krpmrx8 03-16-2012 02:09 PM

Cool build. Good Luck. Fastlane, I assume he is going to run a stand alone ECU along with the stock ECU.

use the renesis front cover and all the sensors will work fine

shr3da 03-17-2012 05:36 AM

Nice another 13b REW swap! Can I ask what you are doing for engine mounts?

Looks like a great part no doubt. I'm just anticipating the poop throwing.:piss:

The poop was already thrown and we are past all that now. Try to get up to speed already ...

the mazsport thing is all in the past?:rollingla I didn't know. It's not like it's brought up every time Scott creates a new company. I have noting against the guy. I've never done business with him.

/thread jack.

GL with this build!

firecran 03-21-2012 08:18 PM

^looks good!

Heres a bit of info to help you out.

The UIM engine hoist loop and surrounding metal will have to go to clear the firewall.

It's a really tight fit back there.

dmedz8 03-21-2012 10:13 PM

Looks good! Is an aftermarket EMS needed? I'm confused by the post about "using the front cover and all the sensors will work fine"...

TeamRX8 03-23-2012 03:04 PM

just shorten the LIM ...

This is true but requires mucho mas work.....

TeamRX8 03-25-2012 02:51 AM

Not really. A band saw to cut out a section and then weld it baçk up, if it can't be cut straight enough then the surfaces might need to be milled to square it up. It is not that big of a job for a proper fab shop.

TeamRX8 03-25-2012 03:03 AM

$450 for shortening a 20B manifold, a 13B should be less work and hopefully cost less

looks great :)

akib 03-30-2012 01:14 PM

is it possible to swap 13b rew engine with its tanny on rx8 without changing turbo and its ecu
i mean stock 13b rew engine, transmission and ecu

bse50 03-30-2012 01:55 PM

You would have to change the accelerator pedal and fab the mounts but yes.
It's pointless though, once you tackle the build it is worth to get rid of the rat's nest and reliability issues created by a craptastic twin turbo system, more than 70 vacuum hoses and a shitty\stupid ecu (both the 8 and 16bit ones stink)

akib 03-31-2012 01:48 PM

the problem is my renny engine is almost gone and i don't have that much money to buy a renny engine an make it turbo. i love 13b rew sequential turbo
i was thinking to put rew and later change the turbo an add power fc
the easy way to get turbo in cheaper....
guys plz make me correct if i m wrong

jayscoobs 03-31-2012 04:14 PM

You will be spending the same amount of money, if not more swapping than to boosting the renny.

akib 04-01-2012 12:24 PM

how much gonna cost the renesis overhaul kit for type S
can u tag a link
and which turbo kit is easy n friendly to rx8
thanx a lot

bse50 04-01-2012 12:53 PM

There's no real "rebuild kit". You have to open the engine and find what needs to be replaced.
Generally speaking it's anything between 2000 and 4000$ in parts.
Turbo kit = search.

And yes Plz search the forum.

Nope. If you're spending 500$ for a rebuild you're doing it wrong. Join him in the forum search please.

akib 04-01-2012 03:38 PM

the prob is in our country no one have rebuild rotary....
so i think it would be better to buy a 13brew engine. will stock twin turbo fit on rx8 with its ecu? if its plz tag me the link and sum picture
again thanx to u guys i got the link off rew mount http://www.rx8performance.com/products/engine-mount

Thanx bse50 and schartz

bse50 04-01-2012 04:01 PM

Where are you from? Rebuilding something you don't know on your own isn't smart. Send me a PM so that we don't clog this thread :)

bryan4140 04-01-2012 08:22 PM

sub'd for fellow stancewi member and a cool project!:icon_tup: car looks good and that display is even better.

dznutzuk 04-02-2012 02:11 AM

No matter how many people ask the same question, the answer will still be the same. No, the stock twin turbos from the rew will NOT fit.

olddragger 04-02-2012 07:55 AM

what do you have going on in the oil coolers? I like that.

dznutzuk 04-02-2012 10:41 AM

Akib, where are you from???

Nice, now you need to make one of these:

dznutzuk 04-04-2012 02:33 AM

I have it setup with the 8 tb, not easy...

shr3da 04-18-2012 03:19 AM

is this going to be another T04Z Extended port combination?

olddragger 04-21-2012 08:48 AM

OMFG!
you are going to suck squirrels up that thing!

benben01 04-21-2012 09:19 AM

Have you read any threads by Turblown? They have already stated that they have already installed/tuned turbo's for the S2
/thread jack

OP, what numbers are you shooting for with that turbo?

benben01 04-21-2012 01:46 PM

^^ IIRC the tuned solution for S2 was a standalone ECU. By the time I tally up the cost of a custom turbo kit, it will easily cross the $10K mark. Just hoping for a tune/flash be available sometime this year so I can start planning in the fall/winter season when the RX will be parked.

RX8Soldier 04-21-2012 02:05 PM

If you think a swap will cost less than $10k, you have more more reading ahead of you.

Oh yeah.. I know it's gonna cost more than $10K. For my situation, a Petit S/C makes the most sense when they are available again hopefully w a tune. Either way, I am interested in seeing how this build turns out :)

rxsevenor8 04-25-2012 10:45 PM

love it. :)

RXeligion 04-25-2012 11:19 PM

Subscribed. I love these REW builds.
