13B Swap - Intake and Exhaust questions

Hi all,

Finally getting around to working my swap. Short story is I lucked into an FC with a built motor in it for a song. Bought the car with the thought that it would be a relatively cheap way to do the swap with a known good motor. Fast forward to now, I've got the motor sitting in the car, and trying to get all of the plumbing sorted out. I will also note that I am hoping to use the renesis front cover, which may be complicating some of this.

The motor is mounted using the CX racing mount, and I have and am planning to use the CX racing exhaust manifold. With the CX racing motor mount, the exhaust manifold seems to sit absurdly low - hitting the subframe. Did anyone else have that issue? To make it fit, I've got a modified subframe in there, but would love to switch back to the original subframe. Additionally, with this header, the turbo is wedged pretty tight between the frame rail, and where the intake manifold would mount. Is this what everyone else is working with?

Secondly, the motor came with a Cosmo intake manifold. It is very clear that this won't fit without some firewall hammering (which I'd like to avoid). I've also read that an FD LIM won't fit either. If this is the case, what LIM is everyone running? And, does it have enough meat to allow me to match the large ports on my motor.

I will keep playing around with things to see if I can get them to fit any better, but hoping some of your experiences might save my some heartache when buying parts to see if they work. Any insight is appreciated.

Pictures would help. The main problem without seeing what you are looking at is that cxracing generally produces crap. Most things don't fit and need modification to work. I would guess that is the issue. I could be wrong though.

something seems different from the pictures on their website

one thing is that their kit is intended for the REW engine, which doesn’t explain some of the fitment issues, but you’re most likely going to need their custom FC LIM to be used with an REW UIM

honestly you’re best bet imo is to contact them to confirm the specifics for the FC engine fitment because the few REW fitments I know of didn’t seem to report these issues

Thanks, I've reached out to them and the response was less informative than I'd hoped. I also should have noted that though this motor came from an FC, it is a mish-mash of housings and irons and uses an FD oil pan and FD motor mounts.

The LIM seems like I will need an aftermarket solution. The exhaust seems like I can extend to get the turbo to a better spot.

the iron plates/intake ports are going to be the deciding factor since they’re not the same between the two

again, they have some extensive photos on the website, including a measurement from the FD oil pan that signifies it being pretty low, but it looks like the turbo manifold doesn’t come all that close to the subframe if you page down through them all

so maybe try to assess the differences for possibly having received a something different, or something missing?

what turbo do you have?

I really appreciate the follow-up and feedback. Turbo is a GT3076 (though not married to keeping it if something would work better).

I definitely agree, something isn't lining up. When I got the motor mount from CX, the cross brace and the motor mounted portion weren't lining up in the front-back direction but lined up in the side to side and vertical. They ended up sending me a different mount, but same issue. I ended up just drilling new holes in the cross member and will weld up the old holes. holes

I will get some measurements to see if I can spot the difference, but I wouldn't think that something designed to mount to and FD engine would have such a huge difference to this engine, which from the bottom, has the same dimensions as an FD and the same mounting points.

Will report back after I get the car back on a lift and take some measurements.

That’s pretty much what I was saying previously about it not explaining some of the fitment issues. The logical conclusion is that what they’re shipping doesn’t match what they show and claim on their commercial website.
