Wrecked Car Options

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I didn't see any other category that would completely fit this in. Anyway.. here comes a little history.

About 7 weeks ago, the day before my graduation, I was driving through an intersection (I had a green) and out of nowhere a police women on a call came flying through and struck me in my left rear corner panel and spun me around 180 degrees. She had her lights on, but no sirens, and at an intersection like that, it was nearly impossible for me to see her. Either way, the police and witness reports were filed and I ended up winning the case. The police paid for the medical, repairs (which currently are still NOT finished), and we settled for $7,000 extra for diminished value of the car.

We had pushed for them to total the car, to avoid in driving in something that was refurbished, but since there was only $10,500 worth of damage done to it, it was deemed repairable. I called the dealership and asked them where they would repair it, and they referred me to a local collision center that they often used. So now my car is sitting in that body shop and I *should* have it back the 13th.

So my question is this:
I do not want to drive a car thats been in an accident, but they would not total it. So, since the Mazda Dealership referred me to this shop, and all the repairs are being done there and supposedly back to "showroom condition", would the trade in value drop since it was in an accident? I am looking to trade it in, use the settlement money, and get a new RX-8. Any information reguarding my situation would be of value, thanks.

It would still be dropped in value, not only for driving it off the lot.. which is about a 4-5k loss... but with the accident, another 2-4k at the least.

With the extra 7k... you're losing at least 1k or so maybe... which isn't too bad. Besides the 2004 models should be cheaper.. or you can get a 2005 WHITE Rx-8
