Talking Wow!

WOW!

First, I was wondering if anyone in Massachusetts has traded in a Black 8 with 6k miles? Whoever did it must have been rich cause he traded it in for a Jag X-type. If that was you, please tell me cause I want to talk to you! Anyways...

I was just at a Jag dealer cause I saw a used 8. It has a GT package and 6k miles. Thier asking price was $25,995 I wanted to talk them down to $23,000. I get there and as I am walking over to the car with the salesman, he tells me the price. I look at the sticker and what does it say? $22,995. That's not a typo. The salesman told me they wanted the 25,995 firm and that the stickers were put out that day and it was a mistake. I asked to speak with the business manager who told me the same thing. I went to leave when I remembered my American Justice classes. I turned to him and asked if they were into false advertising. They said they'd give it to me for the $23,000 on the sticker. The sticker did the haggling for me! Anyways, I took a picture of the sticker and the car as well as had them sign saying they would sell it to me for that price in case they tried to "fix" the sticker for when I went back.

Anyways, is 23k a good deal for this vehicle? I'm really looking for nav but if I'm robbing them blind, I think I can deal without as long as it has the GT package.

Be sure to ask about repairs, accident.. basically VIN history. Might be worth it to research yourself.

i think it's a pretty good deal. on a separate note, why would anyone trade an rx8 for an x-type. they're about the same price anyway.

Sorry... I think I meant XJ... hard to tell the difference between all those luxury brand's models.

The car doesn't look like it was in an accident, but then again, I'm no professional. I'll have to ask for a carfax. And that's why I'm looking for the original owner. I might ask them if I can take it on an extended test drive before I sign for it. Do they do that?

Well, if it's just the GT

package only (no add-on's which is usually not the case) then the Invoice would be approx. $28,600. So if people are buying new '04's at 2K below invoice ($26.6K) then you are looking at about a $3600 savings for 6,000 miles worth of use.

I would bet that it probably has a spare tire kit or a cargo net and maybe even a spoiler or appearance package which would make the deal even better.

As w0rm said, run a VIN check through the Mazda dealer as well as a CarFax. Maybe even see if you can get the previous owners name. Speak to the salesman that took the car in on trade, as he may be willing to ask the previous owner if it's OK to call him...can't hurt to ask.

May be a bit of a risk not knowing how the car was treated during it's early days, but if you can get the info and there are no red flags, you would be way ahead in the depreciation game!

I wish I didn't have to worry about the depreciation game. However, I am almost 7k upside down with my 00 mustang.
