Who's seen the most egregious price gouging?

Best (worst?) I've seen so far is a $2000 dealer profit sticker. Anyone seen $5K? $10K?

My sticker had a $7K markup over MSRP. They even had it written to look like the red/black leather was dealer installed when it's just part of the package. My deal was about $100 over MSRP when you consider the trade in for the accord.

Thumbs down

Coutesy in Henderson NV

On lot 8....

$2500 in the window "market value adjustment" (pure markup)
+
$1295 "Desert Protection Package" (armor all)
+
$3792 "Dealer Installed Options" (nothing you would want certainly not at the inflated prices)

---------
$7587 in total markup......

Additionally, the sales folks were genuinely uninterested in discussing the car with me. Could be I look like a bum, or maybe they just don't give a darn and have a take it or leave it attitude.

For now they are the only dealer for a 120 mile radius, though there are ads for a new dealership comming this fall about 30 miles away. We'll have to see....

Wink Not many dealers in NM, either

My folks wanted to get a look at the RX-8 when I told them I had ordered one, so they went to a dealer in Santa Fe and saw it listed with a $5000 "market value adjustment"

NM is a big, mostly empty state like NV, but luckily there is more than one dealer within a 120 mile radius...!

$5,000 to $10,000

Some Kansas City dealers are charging on average $5000 over sticker. A dealer in IL - just over the river from St Louis said I could have one for $10,000 over sticker. I thought he was joking - but he wasn't. He also said that the $10,000 they were asking was a non refundable deposit. So if you didn't like the car you were SOL and the $10,000.

The sales manager then got on the line and said that is the price take it or leave it. I left it.

Went to a St. Charles Mazda dealer and got my car in three days at sticker.
