Hello fellow rotary nu-errr enthusiasts:

Just like any other car, as soon as it is driven off of the lot. Until a car has been sold, it will always be classified as "new". It may end up as a "demo" if it is at a dealership for an extended period of time and racks up several hundred miles, otherwise it will be classified as a new car. It may not be considered the most current model year, but you will have to see what the dealership will offer you to take the leftover 04's.
Hope that answered your question.

Basically it varies from state to state as to at what mileage a car becomes "used" while still at the dealership. If I am not mistaken (would not be the first time if am am wrong) all states a car becomes used no matter the mileage as soon as it is driven off the lot and title paperwork submitted to DMV.

According to my dealer, any un-sold new '04 cars (of whatever make) will be tagged as "used" by lenders after March 2005. So, even if it is a brand new '04, it will be treated as used from a financing standpoint. While the car is still a new car, the very minute you buy it, it's value becomes whatever the used car value is for the same as for a car that's been on the road for over a year, with the only value adjustment being for low mileage. If you really want to see what it's worth, go to Kelly blue book and plug it in as an "exceptional" vehicle and list the mileage as 100.

According to warranty, 500 miles. After that, you can not get a new car warranty from mazda. You would have to buy a 'certified used' in order to get the mazda warranty.

Thanx for the quick and VERY informative replys Rexers.
So I take it that I have a lot of leverage with a 2004 RX-8 with almost 500 miles and /or just before March 2005?

If you're financing, be aware that some lending instituions "devalue" the '04 models as soon as the '05s are officially available, in regards to how much they are willing to finance. I just ran into this when I was getting financing with my credit union.
This may notbe that big an issue with you, but if you're trying to trade a car that isn't quite worth the amount you owe on it...
