What's the catch.

There is a brand new RX-8 listed as selling for invoice on one of the more popular internet auction sites (ok ebay). In the listing it says that he (dealer) will list any RX-8 in stock for you to purchase at invoice.

What is the catch here. Other than $95 service fee and the fact that you have to drive to/ship from Wisconsin? Why would you have to do it through ebay?

If I understand correctly, if you win the auction (for whatever amount, say $1000), the dealer gets that money and then sells you the car at invoice. That's how they make a profit in addition to the 2% or so holdback. What do others think? Am I interpreting this right?

Nah, it's not bidding on price above invoice. I saw this salesman's last ebay listings and they were misleading. This is to by the car AT invoice. The listed one has a buy it now price of $30, 853 for Black 6MT, GT package, Rotary Package, Appearance Package, 6cdchanger, cassette, spare tire, spoiler.

He clearly states that he would sell any car in stock for Invoice. But oddly, he says he would list it for you to purchase.

Wahoo!

So call him and ask him about it, rather than just guessing about it!

Is this the guy?

If this dealer will sell AT invoice, why go through eBay at all? Why not just sell direct?

Things that make ya go "Hmm..." :D

Yes, that's the guy. I too wonder why you couldn't go direct but must bid on a listed item. Good setup and it appears valid. Pick a car and he'll list for invoice.

Hmm, how much is a flight to West Bend, WI?

That explains it...he's figured out a way to use eBay as "advertising" to reach a wide audience. Pretty clever!

I would stay away from Russ Darrow Mazda!

I tried to buy my wifes 2003 MPV from them. They were so rude that I walked out during the test drive! I actually unloaded the kids and wife out of the van and left it running in the parking lot. The a** h*** salesman refused to put in any fuel for the test drive and the low fuel light was on! I was so pissed I almost bought a Toyota form accross the street just to spite him. Once I calmed down, I bought the same Mazda MPV that I was trying to test drive, but had it transfered to Hall Mazda down the road and was treated very well. Price was not an issue since I got S-plan anyway. Once the van was delivered, it was missing the cargo net and spare key, I'm sure the jerks at Darrow "lost" them just to inconvience the good guys at Hall Mazda.

Russ Darrow Mazda has lots of cars in stock, but please try to buy from another dealer!
