Could be worse. Compare other 2005 vehicles. Like the 2005 Mustang GT. It cost more than an RX8 during the peak demand, and has depreciated the same or worse.

i agree - trading in an RX8 sucks. I however am a buyer and have noticed really really good deals on usd ones.

a trick i learned from an old neighbor who was a car finance guy was to look for the car you want, at a dealer that does NOT sell those cars.

like look for the RX8 at a FORD dealer, or a Toyota dealer. NOT at the mazda dealer.

reason being - if you find the 8 at a Toyota lot, you KNOW they took it in trade and JACKED it from the owner and they only took it to close a sale. it's sitting there now on their lot, costing them money and htey want to dump it as fast as possible. if they don't unload it quick they will just wholesale it.

so if it's been sitting there a month - and they are on the verge or wholesaling it and you come along and offer a tad over wholesale, they stand to make *something* off it and will just let it go.

if you buy a used RX8 at a mazda dealer, they might have bid on it at an auction and could have paid more for it. the one at the toyota dealer was probably bought dirt cheap and they have more room to go down.

anyone think this is true or BS?

I let one of my friends drive my car cause he is interested in getting an 8. He told me the local dealer has an 04 GT with 46k and they are asking $20,000. I told him I'd sell him my 05 GT with 41K and all the mods for $20,000....kinda joking. I shouldn't have told him that cause he was trying to get me to sell it to him. I hope the resale value fo these cars come to a point where they hold steady or go back up a bit. I plan on storing my 8 in the garage if I pick up a sc'd 89 RX7 from my buddy. I only plan on putting 3-5k on the Rx8 each year if I do get the RX7 and hope that low mileage will help my resale value if I decide to sell in the future.

23109VC- The idea has merit, but in actuality with used cars it's car- to - car. Soemtimes those dealers don't knwo what a car is really worth, and make a late night decision out fo a book, and are wrong, and thus STUCK in a car.

lol... do u know the maintenance costs on a mercedes amg? i don't think the $1k u lost over the trade in is what u should be worried about. be prepared to pay for owning a german car. a few things here, and few things there. and, yes- the expensive oem parts.

don't get me wrong- i own a german car also and love it to death. but, u have to know what u r getting yourself into. if u don't like spending money on maintenance, then get a japanese car. cuz if u skimp even a little for german cars- u will pay...

It has about 33000 miles on it. It comes with all the options...leather seats..seat warmer....spoiler...nav-system..6 disc bose...appearance package....etc,.. and it's in excellent condition... so how much would I get to sell it to a private buyer? or how much I would get to trade in?
I just sold my car for 16k and it has every option you do expect navigation. If you got 13k on a trade, you'd be really lucky.
