I asked for 17k - 18k out the door and he replied with

"$18,000 including taxes is not going to happen for sure.
You are asking me to take $2,000 off the internet price plus eat all the taxes and fees.
You also need to think on how many black R3 are out there and this one is in really good shape. Thanks for your offer but i know for sure my boss won't do it. I can sell it to you for $19,400 certified ( 12 months/12K miles bumper to bumper warranty from the day of purchase and 7 years/100K miles powertrain warranty from 2009 up to 2016 )"

it should have that powertrain warrenty regardless, hes not doing u any favors. all original rx8 motors have a 8 year /100k warrenty

Actually, IF that is a true powertrain warranty, then it is better than factory, since the factory Powertrain warranty is 5yrs 60,000. The engine core warranty is 8yr, 100,000, but that is not the same thing as a Powertrain warranty.

With how good that engine is and that added warranty, I wouldn't have much qualms about paying that price. It's still high, but justifiable.

Jsweats430 04-17-2013 05:37 PM

What do you mean True Powertrain warranty?

RIWWP 04-17-2013 05:40 PM

MazdaUSA > MyMazda > Warranty

Some people get confused on the difference between "Powertrain Warranty", and "Rotary Engine Core Warranty".

The core warranty is an extension of the Powertrain warranty as it applies only to the engine core. Example, assuming a normal Powertrain warranty of 5yr 60,000 miles, at 60,001 miles, the transmission, diff, axles, ignition, driveshaft, etc... are no longer covered, but the engine core still is.

The engine core warranty also typically leaves some cost in the hands of the owner when the engine needs to be replaced (powertrain items that aren't considered part of the engine core that need to be replaced with it), where as under the Powertrain the cost should always be $0.

Good to know. So you think 19500 is decent for this R3? He sent me pictures of the installed Racing beat Intake on it. It has rock chips on the hood and front bumper. Still solid price?

RIWWP 04-17-2013 05:45 PM

No, "still high", but, depending on what you can afford and the dealer, it's possibly acceptable.

We really can't tell you exactly what you should be paying and what you should be willing to pay.

Jsweats430 04-17-2013 05:46 PM

Well I am more soo looking for opinions on if im getting ripped off. regardless of what I can or cant afford, the deal as it stands.

Jsweats430 04-17-2013 05:48 PM

He replied

"the powertrain is limited and it's only up 5 years/60K
With the certification you get 12/12K bumper to bumper ( the car has no bumper to bumper left because is only 3 years/36K miles) from the day you pick up the car and the 5/60K gets extended to 7 years/100K
I would recommend the certification for sure because after 60K you are on your own on repairs plus it's transferable so if you decide to sell the car with 80K miles the person that buys it will have 20K miles of warranty on all the mechanical parts on the vehicle."

RIWWP 04-17-2013 05:52 PM

Given that extended warranty, I'd say that no, you are not getting ripped off. If you keep the car that long, you PROBABLY won't be losing money on the deal. If you sell it ahead of time, you can justifiably ask for more because it's transferable. Most warranties are not.
