Is there still an 06 Base Model?

My friend is looking to buy the cheapest 2006 model new "leftover inventory" RX8 he can find. I know in 05 there was a base model that was cheaper than the sport model which was the next step up. He's wondering if the 06 still had a base model since evidentily the 07 no longer has base, just sport/touring/gt now. Any possibility to get one for around 19+TTL with no options/packages?

Highly doubtful you'll find one for that price....that's very low. You might find one for 22K.

oh '07 still has the 'base' model (ie no options), it's just called 'sport' now.

to get the 'sport pkg' that pre-07 RX-8s have, you add the 'performance pkg' onto the 'sport' model

sheesh that's a mouthful lol

and what a dumb marketing idea, making 'base' a 'sport' w/o the 'performance pkg', lol

actually i take that back, a brilliant marketing move actually, will make the 'sport' (aka base) model more attractive to buyers, since no one wants a 'base' RX-8 anyway lol

Except that is what I wanted. Yeah, the base is now the sport. That confused me for a bit and I though I got cheated due to the price being similar but then saw that you have to add the package to make it the previous sport model.

I can understand why people would want the higher end models. Everyone seems to want leather (great if you have cat or dog hair at home), or DSC, or the sunroof, but I remember the days when those were just not available. I went through having those too. I also remember the days when car companies sold really base models so people could afford them and then added HP. This is actually the best handling car I have ever had and all of the cars before didn't have DSC so I can live without it. I have had sunroofs and just didn't use them much and at 6' 3" almost need the headroom. I also didn't want to spend alot.

I gotta tell you. I am very, very happy with my base model and don't feel like I am missing anything without all of the extras. Besides, nobody else even notices. I probably polish it just as much as somebody with a sunroof.

I agree with you hoosier, sunroofs are extremely overrated. Living in Florida you can realistically use them 2 months out of the year. If you open it up any other time you'll literally burn in your seat. Other cars need DSC to handle as good as the RX8 does without it.

Some people just want the "meat and potatoes" of a sports car without all the other gizmos and gadgets.

Got mine fo $23,045 ttl just 2 months ago. 2006 Galaxy Gray Base Model. There weren't too many in San Diego at that time though. I'm not sure how your market looks. A few hundred mile drive would be worth it though.

The sunroof is too small to be enjoyed and leather burns. DSC would be cool....oh well.
