Test Drive

So today I test drove the 2008 RX8. I drove a Grand Touring 6sp. I loved it but I think that I will either get a sport or a touring, the grand Touring is a little to much. Right now the dealership has 2007 for $21,000. I hope that I will get one in the next few months.

Sorry for the long time away, I think that the price is a great deal. The only thing is for a little more money I could get a speed 3.

My first drive was this summer in Ottawa. Black 6 speed GT and it ended up being the one. Had it for about 7 months now and every day is just like the test drive. Actually it's better now that I know my 8 and how to get the best out of it (obviously still more to learn). As long as it's MT, whatever trim, you'll be blown away!!

After you get it, there are easy and inexpensive things you can do that immediately boost the appearacne. One is to NOT get strakes.

Clear corners are cheap, install easily, and subtly improve the look. Tint windows to legal amounts and the car is instantly cooler. Change some bulbs in the interior for ambiance. There's almost no end to cool mods for this car; springs, short shifter, shift ****, intake, exhaust, a/c and oil cooler screens ... not necessarily in that order.

Obviously brilliant black is the colour choice!!

for the mods, in NYC the legal tint is like 70% ... which is close to nothing.

25% all around, got pulled over once, midnight @ 42nd ST Midtown !!! Unbelievable. its midnight buddy, midnight ! and all these cars around me got tints, Im the ONLY one got pulled over. 60 bux ticket. paid

God I hate cops. ******* ********. Enforcer my *** ! Most of them are nothing but an ******* with a legal gun.

I like both but I would rather have the 8 for now because:

1. I prefer the feel/balance/dynamics of a rear wheel drive car verses a car putting all its power to front wheels (and that car has a shitload of it!) This is one of the 8's strong points.

2. I've never minded performance (hot) hatchbacks (especially rockets like that one) but in this case prefer the sleeker lines of the RX-8 over the 5 door body style of the 3 (though I think it's one of the best looking for this type of body style).

If you need room or think you might soon then the 3 is the obvious choice.

Personally I'm very happy that the legal tint limits allow police to see into cars.

Tinting is a personal freedom I hate to see taken away, but crime/cars is a big problem. Not to mention its pretty crappy when your wife/husband is the cop who gets shot on a routine traffic stop by someone in the car holding a gun up to the window and laughing that the cop outside doesn't see it until the bullet shatters the window on its way to his/her head.

Then there is the defensive driving tactic of looking through the car in front of you to watch for brake lights and have that extra reaction time.

So lots of safety reasons NOT to allow too much tint. So its that vs. your personal freedom to tint... Dunno. I guess I side with the safety aspects. Others might downplay the various safety risks and prefer to keep their tinting rights.

A lot of good things in life are ruined by the uncivilized few.

Too many good cops injured/killed in the line of duty to blame them. Personally I wouldn't have the nerve to spend my career walking up to strange cars at traffic stops and not being able to see inside. Sounds like russian roulette.
