State Farm Insurance Rates for 8 going Up?

Just wanted to share some info on the 8's insurance. No tickets, no accidents ever. Single driver age 25-29. Last Sep I paid $581 for 6 months State Farm coverage:

100,000/300,000
Property 50,000
100 Deductible Comprehensive
500 Deductible Collision
Car Rental 80% a day $500 max
Uninsured 100,000/300,000

Rates went up 6 months to $780 this week. I noticed it's classified as a 4-door coupe now. Is that the difference? I knew all Florida rates were rising a little but this is crazy. Also noticed that it's rated higher for thefts and only gets a 10% safety discount- the lowest you can have. Fortunately, Progressive quoted me $590 so I guess I'm switching even though I've been with State Farm for 8 years and donated about $13k to them. Bleh

i have state farm also and mine didnt go up .but i do have a $300.00deductible .i have figure out though out the years. you save more in insurance when you raise your deduct.why have a $100.deduct if in most case your going to pay the $100 just so you dont have to file a claim and let them raise your insurance.

over in west palm beach my insurance with state farm hasnt gone up. it's actually the same as my car before it..a 99 dodge intrepid. Do you have a multicar discount? If so...and if you're young and a non smoker, dont do crack, and dont have AIDS look into taking out a 15,000 life insurance policy on you or someone else in the household/multicar. It's 15$ a month and saves each driver $18 a month. It works out for everyone

I also have State Farm but in Georgia. I received a notice of a rate increase with my last six month renewal about 3 weeks ago but mine only went from $604 for six months to $617. They also went up by a similar amount on my 98 Prelude. Your increase seems high just for the change in the rating on the car. Are you sure something else didn't change also?

why not just drop them? go to a different company, we use Amica Mutual they are one of the highest rated companies and our rates actually go down.

Insurance rates are just set by numbers. If the number of accidents drivers of 8s have goes up, then the rates go up. If the claims for theft and property damage go up, then rates go up.

When the S2000 came out the numbers were good - not many could or would pay $32k for a 2.0l sports car. A lot were purchased hoping for future value and not drive much (boy did they lose) and a lot were sunny day cars so not many miles either. Plus the folks who purchased them didn't tend to wreck them. As they got more and more available and used ones quit holding their value and lot more young folks got them and started driving them as a daily driver. 240hp and RWD and no stability control in the hands of folks who had only driven FWD = lots more claims. So the insurance has gone up.

I would guess you are looking at the same deal. When the 8 came out they had to guess about the frequency and amount of claims. The dealers wanted full price and a lot of the early owners were like the S2000 early owners. Now that the car is easy to get - and easy to get a deal on the numbers on the road go up, the number of daily drivers of 8s go up, and the median 8 owner age is probably down quite a bit. With more claims the rates will go up.

Things that don't tend to excite or interest folks who are younger or more careless - like a mini van, will always be cheaper to insure. Sports cars - no matter how many doors and seats, will always be more expensive to insure. Partly the fear of what we MIGHT do in one, but mostly due to the reality of what some folks actually do in their cars.

I have State farm and pay $415 every 6 months on my 2005 Legacy GT (in chicago), up from $395 for my 04 Rx-8. Do you have more than one driver on the policy?

Started with State Farm, and my last renewal they were going up ~ $80.00 every 6 months.

So I went insurance shopping, and am now with Progressive. Better coverage & lower rates.

FWIW, I've been with Progressive for 5 years now (switched to them from State Farm). Been very happy with 'em. I've had one claim -- I totaled my wife's Protege, and they did an outstanding job with the claim process and payment. My rates did go up after that, but even after the increase, it was $180/year less than I had been paying Satan Farm...

I thought my insurance was going to be up the butt when I bought the RX8 so I actually called while I was at the dealership and believe it or not the Mazda 6 had a higher premium. And I mean by 100 a month. I couldn't figure that one out. But I really hope my doesn't go up. I live in Maryland. Anyone else from MD have any increase on their 8's???

You really can't compare - everyone who posts is in a different age bracket, different state, difference record and driving experience, some get multi-line discounts, and some get multi-car discounts. Also some carry $1000 deductibles and some $100 - some carry $300/500k liability, some a lot less.

Progressive is nice (I use it for the motorcycles), but they are higher FOR ME than State Farm - and I get super service from SF. Everyone should shop around for the best rate for THEM based on what they have and where they live. You can use the Progressive online system for a free quote and see how they stand up against you current policy. In a lot of cases they can show you quote for several other companies as well.

I think State Farm is one of the highest insurers out there. I have my homeowners insurance through them, and when I got a quote from them to add my two vehicles on as well, their quote was still almost twice as expensive as who I went with. No level of service is worth that. I go through a broker, and he shops all of the insurance agencies for me. I was with Safeco, and when I got the RX-8, my pre-renewal rate increased by about $120/six months. So I called my agent and told him to shop around and I went with AIG (largest auto insurer in the country) and reduced my premium by over $150/six months.

Like I said, you can't compare. We are all different - live different places, have different driving records, different cars, etc. When I compare prices VS other companies I would insure with (no GEICO, etc) State Farm has a good rate FOR ME. And that is all that matters - everyone should do what you and I did - shop around for the best rate from a good company for themselves.

I need to hurry up and turn 25! I have 5 months left. My insurance went up quite a lot when I added this car to my policy. It is quite a bit more expensive then my Acura TL. The car raised my rates by $380/6 months and I have a perfect driving record -- it is quite insane. I use Allstate as my insurance since I get a discount because my wife is in school as well as a discount because I have renters insurance with them as well.

You need to check on that high of an increase. Ironically my insurance rate dropped from the 2001 Millennia S rate.
