Should I jump on this deal?

I inquired a couple of quotes for a 6MT no package no options.
They gave me a qoute for 24800 MAC rebate included. The invoice is 25400.
So without the MAC rebate, its 400 above invoice. Do you think this is a good deal?

Also I'd like to find out how the MAC rebate works. Ive read on these boards that you can finance it through my own credit union the next day to cover the high interest rate MAC is offering. But my dealer said I had to wait 3 months. And another member said he had to wait 3 months and had to keep the car under 6000miles. So I'm kinda confused there.

Much help appreciated
Thanks

Aim for invoice or below invoice. 06s will be out in a few weeks.

I see DC5 in your username. RSX owner? I made the switch yesterday from the RSX Type S to the RX-8!!!

yep...looking to make a switch. Still undecided though.
I'm torn between this and the EVO9. And I heard rumors on hp increase on the 06 as well as a twin turbo RX-8 in a year. So i'm really having a hardtime deciding.

How much did u get yours for?

$400 above invoice is decent but not great. You can probably do another $200 better. But it may not be worth the trouble?

Here in MA, the law requires simple interest loans. This means that I can refinance the next day.

You shoudl ask what type of loan your dealer is offering. If it is a simple interest loan, then you can refinance the next day. Otherwise, you may have early repayment penalties and such.

Perhaps ask the dealer what the penalties are for refinancing before 3 months. Ask him to show the contract language that does that. He may just be bluffing.

hp increase on the 06 is only on the automatic. No changes to MT power.

I paid $23,850 for a blue 05 GT with 10.6K miles. The depreciation on these cars is quite high unlike the RSX. So, I did not want to buy a new one and take a big hit in a couple of years. As far as I know, there is no HP increase for the 6 speed models.

If you drive a Type S now, you won't feel a lot of difference in acceleration with the 8. But the ride quality and handling is so much better. I have both the cars as of now and I can really compare the two. A more powerful engine on the 8 would have been great, but I am pretty happy with what it offers now. I did go to the Mitsu showroom to see and test drive the evo. But, I just couldn't convince myself. It is not for me.

Aim for invoice (not including rebate), but if the quote you got includes all dealer "handling" fees, it's not bad. Dealers in my area like to add a few hundred dollars of "non-negotiable handling fees" so even if you get the car "at invoice," the real price is a couple hundred dollars higher, and therefore closer to what you've been quoted. So make sure you know the TOTAL cost (before taxes--since they're non-negotiable). If it really is $400 over invoice, you're definitely in the ballpark, but there's probably more room left if you want to negotiate a little longer.

On the other hand, if you don't care about color and/or options, there might be quite a lot of room left if you're able to wait a little longer to get closer to 2006. Many people got really great deals on '04s at the end of 2004 and the beginning of 2005. If you're picky on color and configuration, then get the car now while they have what you want. Otherwise, there's no rush.

Mazda American Credit imposes no penalties for early loan payoff (and to be specific, this includes the rebate). Make sure that any documents you sign at the dealer also indicate there is no prepayment penalty, and you're good to go in that area.

i Got my 05 MT Touring for 26k out the door. (taxes and all)

These cars are pretty lame with the base model (smaller brakes, smaller wheels, soft suspension, halogen headlights...ect) i would at least get the sports package...unless there is a reason you want a base. Do you have a TypeS or just base rsx?

No turbo/twin turbo RX8 for at least a few years...if ever, 06 MT has the same power.

If your looking at an Evo, then surely you could spend a few hundred more and get a good package, like sport, touring, grand touring.

Dont pay more than Invoice on an 05 right now!

hey guys thanks for all your feedback!!! really appreciate it.

I have a type-S. I thought the base model 6MT had all the same power, suspension and brakes, and the only thing it doesnt have is the TCS? and of coz no leather, halogen lights and all those other options. Correct me if i'm wrong :P

I'm going to build the car, so I dont really need all the other comfort options.

The base model 6MT doesn't have the sport package, which has the TCS/DSC, fog lights and Xenons. You don't have to have leather for Xenons.

I paid the extra $1200 for the sport package to get DSC and Xenons and, man, Xenons are really awesome. I think they are really worth that money. Since I also intend to drive this car in the winter, I hope DSC will save my *** a little.

The following is what is ADDED to the base package plus the other package (ie Touring is the Sports PLUS ____ )

Sport
18" Wheels
Larger Brakes
Sports Suspension
HID Lights
Fog Lights
DCS/TCS

Touring
Sport Package
Bose Radio
Sunroof
Homelink Mirror

Grand Touring
Touring Package
Leather
Heated Seats
Heated Mirrors

-----------------------

I went with the touring cause i wanted a sunroof and bose but I dont like leather and dont need the heated crap in FL. The bose system is ok, IMO its better than the regualr radio.....with the way the stereo is in the dash, it would be a hastle to upgrade the radio, so I just got the bose and added a self-power sub (10" infinity BassLink)

If you dont want a sunroof or bose, the sport package would be the way to go.

Tochigi Fuji LSD (Standard)

Larger brakes (Standard)
Sport Tuned suspension (Standard)

and the sport package comes with
Self-leveling Xenon headlights
Fog lights
Dynamic Stability Control with traction control

Correct, the auto 8 with no package is a real bad deal - but even the 6mt w/o package is something I would not want. You do want the Xenon lights and DSC and the fogs - well worth the $1,118 dealer cost for these optons. Heck, worth that just for DSC (see all the "spun out" threads).

For a no haggle price quote, you can check www.carsdirect.com . Right now they are showing for ME that the 6mt 8 for $200 over invoice then less the $1,000 MAC rebate - but the deals vary with the ZIP code you use. Did you say where you are located? Maybe someone can speak up with a discount dealer in your area?

I have had folks say they were told you had to wait 3-4 months to re-finance, but others say there is NOTHING in the MAC sales contract that says anything about this - or about a pre-payment penalty. So read the fine print, if it does not say anything then you can re-do it the first day. The dealer might be hosed out of some bonus from MAC, but what do you care? If they give you a fair rate, then there is no big rush - if they give you some nasty-high rate then get out of it as quick as you can.
