FL Second opinion on This rx-8 please.

>> I'm planning on purchasing a used 2004 rx-8 with navigation.

Its listed for $12,500 http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...torcons/at.gif 83k miles NADA has it priced at $11,000
Link: This is the listing on autotrader.

>> It has 83k miles average of 16.7k a year. This is my only real concern with the car.

>> The Carfax is clean with 8 service records reported. No recalls that have been an issue with most 04's are reported. I went to go see it in person and it does look to be in great condition cosmetically

>> Im not sure what trim it is but i think its the GT, maybe someone could help me identify the trim in the pics?

>>Id just like some opinions if this is a good value and more importantly is the mileage OK i know that average is supposed to be around 12-15k miles a year.? as the price isn't to much of a concern i can afford it but id hate to be ripped off a 1000 dollars.

>> How can you tell if its a bose radio or not? i don't see any bose logos on rx-8 dash's.

>> Any other tips for a rx-8 / mazda newbie? Things i should ask or look for when i go to the dealer besides the general things..

uhhh... I mean I think it will be fine. but the mileage scares me. A lot of 8's have to get new engines once they start getting high in mileage. My concern is buying one with 83K. Are you sure you want to do that? esp for 12.5k I think you can find a better deal, you probably could on these forums.

Personally, that's too high mileage. Mileage wise you can get a much better deal for much less. Don't let NAV be a selling point because you can get much in dash NAV's or a cheap Garmin which are much better. For 12.5k I wouldn't go over 50k miles, 60 if you know the guy.

Also do some research on these forums regarding the car. It requires Ferrari Like Maintenance, then again... its on par with a Ferrari.

Yes. If you are not willing to take very good care of it, and pay more for high quality gas, and more of said gas, I wouldn't get it. This car is not a quick car off the line. It handles like a dream, and I love it, but some people are disappointed when they get theirs expecting it to throw them back in their seat like a rocket.

Also, get a manual transmission. Seriously, if you don't know how to drive one, learn. it's a must for this car, plus, just more fun.

Lastly. Do your research. Really, look for a better deal, and in the mean time crawl the forums, search for questions you may have. Just learn about the car. You may find it isn't what you want. Or you may find the opposite. Don't let me discourage you, I LOVE mine. Most do, but some who just want a flashy car and don't want to put money, time, and effort into keeping it in shape, have a bad experience.

>> It is a 6MT.

Yeah ive read about the maintenance needed for the car and im willing to maintain it, it is a very nice car. Ive tested an automatic a long time ago and liked the handling acceleration isn't to big of a deal for me i don't race or anything and man i love the way the rotary sounds.

>> Im going to haggle the price down NADA says its 10-11k. Still looking for other 8s it seems by the time i get off the phone and get to the dealer its sold already lol, this has happend to me three times already.

no go. I bought an 04 just a few week ago for $12,500 with 20K miles, nav, leather, etc. 12,500 for that car is too much. Offer 9500 and dont pay more than 10,800. The dealer has room to work. make sure you check the brakes, oil, etc. and use those as leverage against the dealer price. My dealer tried to tell me the car has fresh brakes and just had an oil change so i took him out and made him pull the dipstick and look at the rotors and got him to knock a few hundred more off price.

I agree sith Symbio't thread on the nav. It's really not that great in the 04. Plus it almost a guarantee the discs are old and you'll have to spend the $200 for new discs.

There are plenty of 04's and 05's for a similar price with lower miles. keep shppin even if you have to travel a bit. I live in dallas and found mine in chicago.

Thank you guys for the quick replies and your .02 cents

>> on par with a farrari that made me giggle lol

>> Thanks fischer99 ill go hard on the 9.5-10.8 deal i believe that is a more suitable price range, and should be able to pull it off if i cant find a better deal on a 8 in my area. For some reason all the rx-8's in my area vanished from one month to the other.

>> Hope to be in the 8 club sooon!

Ehh...not a great price for an 04 with that mileage.

Try this - do a search on AutoTrader for ALL RX-8s with less than 75k with the options you want and you'll find many that are at least a grand or two cheaper than that.
