I recently came across an RX8 that originally has 100km (im in Canada btw) and a "new" engine put in since there was an issue with the previous one (not sure as of yet, but can find out more)

Anyways, my question is it common to see RX8's with replacement engines?

Also, is there any downfall/draw backs to getting an 8 with a new engine?

Its going for about 20k CDN....

I read a bit about replacement engines, but am a bit weary....

Depends if it was a recall replacement that was done at a dealer (in which case its fine, so long as the dealer's reputable), or done by some goof who owns a chop shop.

It was done under warranty to my understanding. There was something wrong with the transmission initially and thus the dealership under warranty replaced the engine.

Would this hurt the resale value of the veichle though? Is there any drawbacks?

No. It just means the engine was replaced due to a faulty batch. So long as it was done properly, it should be fine. In fact, since the engine mileage is less (I'm assuming they replaced it with the Renesis engine, which is what they SHOULD have done), it will sell for more.
