Rx8 good learning car?

hey guys, I'm completely new to these cars so bare with me here. I'm looking at a 2004 6speed RX8 for about 24,000, it has 8k on it but it had 2 owners so it sounds pretty sketchy, why would 2 people trade it that quick? what I really wanna know is this is my first manual so is it a good learning car or no. I drove the car fine when I tested it and it rode great but I'm not the greatest driver out there yet. It's either this or an 05 eclipse so what do you think guys?

Think you need a civic to learn on, then buy a car with something more.

Why do you think that? Don't listen to him, the 8 is perfectly fine for learning on, though I am not to sure about that particular car. Get the VIN, then see if you can dig up any info on it.

There are still quite a few NEW 04's on dealer lots. If you look around, you might find a better deal on a NEW one with factory and/or dealer incentives. I bought mine brand (6-speed sport) new about a year ago for around 27K without any discounts or incentives. ...So if you ask me, 24K for one with 8K miles on it isn't that special of a deal ...especially if as you say it had 2 previous owners.

As for the question of which car to get ...your on an RX8 forum, what answer would you expect? If I had it to do over, I would still buy the 8. It's a pretty forgiving car in nice weather. But you will want to upgrade your tires before driving it in snow or icy conditions.

Hope that helps

Did I mention that I LOVE this car?

hey, i'm maybe not the best here to answer you, but i can maybe help you a bit. I just bought my 8 about 6 weeks ago. I'm the second owner, the guy before kept it for only 1000 miles. I don't know why he changed, because i bought the car from the dealer, but what i know is that he changed for the new mustang. The dealer told me that he's kind of guy with 5 or 6 cars and change often. Is it true or no? Don't care anymore. I'm really happy with my new purchase. I love to drive it, espacially in the curves. And i love the design and the comfort. Don't worry about the shifting, first time i tried it, i missed the start three times and this is not my first manual car. You'll get used to it, like anyother car.

I was looking too for the new eclipse before to buy my rx8. I don't know in the USA, but here in Canada, the model was supposed to come out in june, and i didn't want to wait all summer to have my new car. I saw some pictures, the car is really nice, but personnally, i think they mess up a little bit the front part. And according to me the Rx-8 is more marginal than the eclipse. I think we will see more eclipse on the road in 2 or 3 years than rx-8, because the eclipse is less expensive. Depends if you wanna keep this car for a long time or no. This is just my personnal opinion. You take it or no!!! As you like.
Please guys, don't look at the mistakes, still learning the english language! Thanks

Mat

You can learn to drive a shift in any car, but IMO to really enjoy the 8 you need to shift through the gears quick to keep the RPMs up. This may not be easy when learning, you may buck a bit, especially when starting out in 1st gear. If you buy the car, find someone with a beater and practice. Rent a car for a day or two if you can.

thanks for all the info guys, I'm sure I'll learn how to drive pretty quick, every toy i own has an engine on it so i should pick it up pretty quick. i actually planned on getting an evo until we went through a lawsuit and lost some money so unless i become obsessed with this car ill most likely be trading it in for an evo next year but im tired of driving a cavalier lol so i think this will do but man theres no other feeling like that AWD evo.

Do you have to run high test gas in this car?

if you are going to trade the car in a year, why not wait until next year and buy the Evo if that is what you really want? You risk taking a possible loss with depreciation, etc... to just keep the car a year. just my 2 cents...

true, but like I said, I wanna try this car out and if I like it more than the evo then I'll keep it which very well might just happen. You are right about waiting till next year though, but i have a problem with being teased about my car, I've gone through a year of it and I can't take any more. I know it sounds stupid but I guess the looks of this car has me mesmorized lol

IMO the looks of the 8 far surpass the Evo, and the compliments and stares you get will attest to that.

I learned to drive a manual on my buddies 85 diesel rabbit. It was a beast but after learning to drive stick on that thing, I could drive any manual. You don't have to, but I would suggest learning to drive stick on something really crappy, it helped me. I also worked valet for 3 years so that too helped me get used to driving stick.

Are you asking what IMO stands for? If so it's "in my opinion." I don't think your talking about music so haha yea. But yea that's why I'm buying this car though guys cause I've heard everything about it is nice except gas and snowy weather so I'm gonna give it a try but thanks for all the info on everything.

I started with an RX-7. It wasn't new, but rather on the abused side, but it was a great car. Lucky I didn't kill myself with it. If it had been a new one, I don't know that I would have taken as good of care of it then as now. But all in all, if you buy it, it won't be your last! Good luck.

oh ok, i have no idea, sorry. Hey one more question for you guys. I know this car isn't the best car for the snow considering its RWD. I like to go up to the mountain alot and I need something that can handle a little in the snow. do any of you live somewhere that it snows often? If so, would you say I shouldn't buy this car cause of bad handling in the snow? I live in MD so it doesn't snow a lot but when it does it usually hits hard and like i said i go snowboarding a lot so I'm feeling kind of sketchy on this.
