I think auto insurance is like highway robbery these days.

Especially in New York. Yeah NY is one of the worst state when it comes to drivers. I've TONS of experience in that, many times can probably get me killed, meh.

Still ...

Auto insurance is expensive for one reason. The same reason that malpractice isnurance is expensive and therefore medical bills. The american public is litigation happy, and the value of human life has been raised to an absurd ammount.

If you don't like your rate, call up other companies and get a quote. We can sit here all day and quote what our rates are or listen to you talk about what your credit rating is and on and on and on and on. There's not really anything you can do other than take a defensive driving class (idrivesafely.com will let you do it online and counts in mosts states) or switch companies.
Ja, but are post counts go up!

Look at the breakdown of your premium. Collision coverage cost tends to be in the same ballpark as liability. Litigation may be the driver for medical malpractice rates, but it's not the dominant factor for auto insurance.

I pay $940 a year for the 8 and my saturn, the saturn knocks $50 a year off the total so it's convenient. I go thru AAA.

I had my driving record imported from chile where I grew up and before that they were charging me around 800 a year for just the saturn, when I updated my record, not only did my premium drop to 300 a year, I started getting checks in the mail for what turned out to be about 1200 bucks. AAA paid me back all that i had overpaid retroactively since I got insurance with them. They bought my loyalty, because THAT is customer service

huh? For $20 a month I protect $50k in belongings in my house(condo).

For a little over $100 a month you can rotect a $300k home...

Or, for just under $100 a month I can protect my $17k Rx8, and the damage it could do. I haven't gotten in an accident in 10 years since 2 weeks after I got my license. In the last 10 years i have paid roughly $20k for NOTHING.

Medical insurance is worse. The cheapest possible plan is abotu $2k per year. In that same 10 year span I haven't had $2k in medical bills.

do you know how much damage your $17K RX-8 can do? You can destroy a side of a home, you total the entire RX-8, you can injure/kill people in AND out of the 8. Do you think the total value of those things I listed is under $300K??

and I always tell people, if you can afford to eat the losses from an accident, don't buy more insurance than what is required by your state's law. If you can afford to replace the 8 or repair any damage to it or pay your own medical bills, then just by third party liability (which is what is the only thing required required by law). What you pay for with your premium is peace of mind as well... that you won't go bankrupt when you get into an accident.
