Angry Not feeling so good about this!

OK, so I am reviewing my paperwork from my car. Somehow an extra $1292 dollars got thrown in for "Options" and I can't figure out why or how. Do dealers throw money in to cover labor on Mazda parts, i.e. Spoiler, moonroof deflectors?

I just noticed that my "sticker" price is different than what is on my contract. I know I should have reviewed more carefully and everything, and I will probably get flamed for it, but it was my first new car purchase ever.

To top it all off I just found the $500 credit from Mazda...will a dealer honor that after the fact at all? I got the car on the 4th, and they still have to add my options anyway. Has anyone negotiated after the sale.

Any help is VERY much appreciated and any questions are welcome.

Is it sometimes possible to work with the dealer and at LEAST get gredited with parts or service for extras thrown in? They really hid a few things very well and gave me things I don't want or need...like insurance through Lojack...just makes me feel nauseous.

The options have to be listed somewhere in the paperwork- they can't just charge you for something random like that.

And which $500 credit is this? Something recent?

I have to find the rebate again. Not sure if it was recent but Mazda was emailing it to me. When the email arrives I can let you know about the credit.

As far as the contract...
My sticker price was supposed to be 34000...looking at the contract it is 35033 (dealer list). Then there is Add'l Options of 2188...Bringing the total to 37221. Figuring all of the things that I KNOW I wanted, I can account for all but $492 dollars. It isn't itemized, But I figured out they threw in a LoJack warranty that they didn't mention, and there is no seperate price for the LoJack system on my contract. Also no specific prices for the Clear Bra, Tint, Spoiler, Moon Reeof Deflector. I am going off of the Mazdausa prices as it seems to me that they should be too. When I had asked them during the sale they kinda skirted the issue, but like I said, I was nervous, anxious and all that...

I hope it is not a big deal and can be worked out, but I am a bit concerned.

Also, does anyone know about the ESP. It says 5yr/60,000...that is on top of the MFG warranty, right? Or does that mean that is total?

Uh Oh, you should of gone to Edmunds.com and done some research about the scams these sneaky *** salesman try to do to get some extra cash. Salesman tend to add additional or "Excessive Charge" (Junk fees)........Alot of dealers do this to recover the lost money they acquired when discounting your car's retail price. It seems to me they added alot of B.S to your contract. But since you signed it, its showing that you have looked over the contract and agreed to the options. But Give it a shot you never know.........GOOD LUCK.

You still have some leverage with the sales staff until you fill out the dealer/salesman satisfaction survey from Mazda. It's less than before you signed the contract but it's still enough to keep them jumping to your demands to a degree. When you talk with them use words that indicate that you are "not very satisfied" or that you are "disappointed with your salesman / dealership".

I was thinking this same thing...I have not filled out the survey yet, so at least that is something. I should be going into the dealership soon. Waiting for them to call me on the parts. Thanks for all the help so far!

Alright, so I went into the dealership (Sill-Terhar) in Broomfield Colorado. I explained to them that 1292 dollars was added to my contract that shouldn't be there. We went over the contract and found the discrepency...the saleswoman(who has since quit) told me that the "enviroment package" which included tinting and clear bra was 300 dollars. When the manager looked up his pricing it was $499 each, not a $300 dollar deal. Had I known this ahead of time I probably would have done it anyway since it is rolled into the loan, but I explained that I didn't like the fact that I was flat out lied to by an employee when the dealership says it prides itself on honesty. He apologized, gave me 8 free oil change (whatever) and I had him throw in a cargo organizer with the carpet covering. I am glad to see that they at least tried to make things right, and I can at least say I am happy with the other employees thus far. I suppose I will see what happens when I pick my baby up later this week.

what I'm first and formost worried about is how did you spend that much just on the sticker price alone?

I don't know anyone who bought even a fully loaded RX-8 (including appearance package, GT and nav) that paid more than 32,000 for it...did you bargain them down or take sticker price?

Beware there are two dealerships in Colorado under investigation for junk like this. They hid the costs for warranty and others items in the price on the sales document or their dealers tricked people by lieing to them that if they did not purchase the warranty the bank would not approve their loan. One was a Ford dealer and the other GM. Not the one you have however.

Not sure how much you paid for that 5/60k ESP, but that is from the date of purchase, here is an example for you.

You bought the car 7/4/2005
Factory warranty expires 7/4/2009 or at 50k miles whichever is first
5/60k ESP warranty expires 7/4/2010 or at 60k miles whichever is first

So depending on how much paid for this, you might have gotten ripped off, because you are only getting an extra year or 10k miles of warranty, just be aware of this, all these warranties start when you take the car home

Zuhalter Vati got a shinka model. The MSRP runs around $34,500ish depending on options. Dealers don't discount as much on these as regular 8s, you're lucky if they take more than $1000 off the sticker.

She obviously got some extras added on though. LoJack and most extended warranties are add-ons that are really useless IMO. Most ESPs exclude a lot of important coverage that you need and are usually restrictive as to where you can take your car for service. Beware of so-called 100,000mi/10yr extended warranties, unless you read the fineprint you won't know that coverage begins from day 1, meaning you are really only getting 50,000mi extra on top of of the standard warranty. Do not get GAP insurance from the dealer either. I got mine from my car insurance for only $14/year extra.

Well to some everything up...My sticker price really was just around 35000 because I added a spoiler, moonroof deflector, rotary accent etc.
I did get the Gap insurance, Lojack, and ESP. I like the idea of lojack, some say it is a waste, but I like the fact that if my car gets moved, my cell phone gets called.
I wasn't aware you could get GAP insurance from an agent. Now I know. I also know that the ESP is not such a great deal, but the way they did the paperwork it got added when you got the lojack.
I am confident that I probably paid a bit more than I should of, and being lied to about the price of tinting and clear bra didn't help, but I am chalking it up to a learning experience. I am a pro at buying used ars and talking people down. I got my Miata for 4k and it only had 40,000 miles on a '92 in 2001. This is the first new car I have ever purchased and as such there are a lot of options thrown out there and I was in a bit of a hurry to get out of there with my car. So ya gotta live and learn. I thought I had done my homework, but it turns out I only did the front of the page. I'm much better armed for my next new car purchase and I won't pay too much again.
On the flipside of things, however much I paid for the car has been worth it. I am very happy with it. Since I have an 84month loan I am making extra payments like crazy so I won't have to deal with paying alot of interest. I am hoping to have this paid off WELL before even a 60month loan.
I've learned my lesson, I can honestly say that the chance of a dealer getting the better of me will NEVER happen again.

BTW Wedge, I like the number of your Shinka being under your name, think I will add that.

FYI for future buyers...FULLY loaded including spoiler, moonroof deflector, rotary accent etc. you should still get for under 32,000 but the fact this car is a Shinka does factor some...as another poster pointed out

Zuhalter...you have a good perspective on things...you love the car and your not going to let these little problems get you down...I commend you for that

enjoy the car you will love it...only thing you need to do for the car to be ready is:

buy clear corners (www.mazdaparts.com has them for cheap with stealth bulbs) and remove the moonroof wind deflector and promptly throw away

Already done, got them on ebay for $55. Checking out the LEDs first, but I found some stealth type bulbs for pretty low cost, gonna see how they look when it gets back from the shop

Not Shinkas fully loaded, dealers don't deal, they treat them like Diamonds, kinda crazy.

Believe me, the F&I guy was ready to throw in the towel on me, he had to call the sales manager twice to tweak my numbers so I would sign the dotted line, but still I only got about $1200 off the sticker. The sales manager did throw in 2 yrs worth of free oil change so its not too bad.

I got my GAP coverage from Liberty Mutual. When I reported my new car the guy asked me if I wanted GAP added, I was surprised when he quoted me only $14 extra for it for a year. And yes its for a full GAP coverage.

Zuhalter, you like my shinka#, eh?

I bought my Shinka on the 24th of April for $34060.00.
There was only 2 available in the whole Baltimore/Washington metro area.
I couldn't haggle that much on price, did get him to drop it $600,00, add $500.00 to my trade-in, give me every available dealer installed option for free ($595.00 value), and lifetime free oil change/service agreement.
