New 2005 vs Used 2004

Hi again,

I am about a week away form going to a dealership and this dude is selling his loaded rx8 with 15K on it in my area. He wants $22,300 for it. The car is blue and has "everything except for navigation system" according to the guy. He bought the car in '04 and has all the papers and maintenance documentation on hand. The new car that I am going to get is going to be around $24,600; base.

We are talking about a difference of 2,300 for the car itself (without taxes) and I am sure that the dealership will tag on some fees that "everybody pays." Do you think the used car is worth it?

Thank you.

Find out if it has a factory moof roof in it (this makes it obviously a touring or GT pack car) then see if it has factory leather - if so then it is a GT.

Unless it is a GT and you want the roof and leather, I would pass at that price. if you found a left over 04 GT you are looking at $24,500-$25,200 for a NEW car. To get a 15k used one and only save $2-3k would not be worth it to me. If you find a left over 04 sports pack car it would be about the same as this used one.

Makes sense to me... How is leather in RX8? Is it reasonable?

I would also get the VIN from him and go to the Mazda dealership service department and see what kind of warrenty history is on the car, I did for mine to find out if anything major was done to it. A little story, I was also looking at a 2003 Red 350Z from Carmax when I found my 8, and when I called the nissan dealership to check the warrenty history on the 350Z found out that it has a new trans and clutch put in it, the car only had 18k miles on it, that killed that deal. The car might have been ok after that but no sense in taking a chance on something else major being wrong either.
