$500 consumer rebate - negotiating price

Okay guys...

I am negotiating a deal and need advice: Is this $30,100 a good price for a red 8, 6 spd, GT red/black leather... including tag/title/tax everything?

If not whats the lowest anyone recently got in MD/DC/VA area and with which dealer?

Also, did anyone get the 500 consumer rebate lately?

It would be easier to say if the price was without tax, tags and title since those vary depending on location. Assuming MD fees of 5% tax,~$100 title and $70 for tags (or somewhere close to that), it looks like you're right around invoice.

Recently, there have been a lot of people posting that they bought for a little under invoice, so you'll have to decide for yourself if the price is good enough to buy.

Depends on what kind of goodies it comes with (Nav, appearance pkg, spoiler, spare tire, stereo options, etc). Check out http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/pr...&src=VIP&tab=1

And click the price with options button- you obviously want to pay close to invoice pricing, which it sounds like you got considering your price includes tax.

Sean,

No goodies: 6 spd with just the GT package.

I thought 29,000 was a good price for a truck I was buying until I searched the net and found the same truck for 22,000. Even after I pay for a plane ticket to look at it and pay to have it shipped to me, Im still 6k ahead of the game. When I showed the local dealer the ad for the other vehicle they said they would not match the price.

Then I discovered that all the dealership in Chicago were offering the same 7k off of the vehicles...so now the 7k off doesnt even look like the best deal. True story about a 2003 Land Rover Freelander. My dealership in Louisville Ky, and all the dealerships in Chicago.

Find a price you want to pay and then go to every dealership you can find on the net to see what they are selling them for. You might be surprised. At the very least you can cut your price by 2k and offer it to 10 different dealerships to see if they will take it.

epitochroid, your car has an invoice of $29821. The cost to the dealer absent incentives is 29821 - .02*(26680) = 29287.40.
This doesn't count the operating costs to the dealer and cost of keeping the car in stock. You say you paid 29 and change - how the hell you lucky b*****d!!?? :D

I don't know how everyone did when they bought theirs, but I think I may have two of the lowest offers ever on the table right now. I have two quotes for a velocity red, 6 speed, GT package, polished rotary accents, and rear wing spoiler. One was $28,500 and the other was $28,800. That is without tax and the other stuff. Maybe the fact that it is winter here in WI may have something to do with it, but I will also have to invest a little more in another set of tires. Even with that, I think it is still about as good as you will get.

This is a direct quote from the e-mail I got...

$31,100 MSRP
$28,034.00 Your internet Only Special Price!

Their quote on the spoiler and accents brought it up to $28500.

Invoice on a GT 6MT is $28,620 (including destination charge of $520), so that is a really good price. Seems many dealers are letting RX8's out the door with a very slim margin, if at all.

I've been working on my purchase down here in Austin. I basically went to the dealership with a list of options and an offer I had recieved over the internet from a different dealership. The salesperson came back and told me I could have anything on the lot at invoice.

For what it is worth, I also though it was important to ask for invoice or dealer costs on (add on) options - since I was buying the showroom car.

For example: MT GT package with accents included: 30,000 with all taxes, etc. paid (out the door price). In addition, I asked for dealer cost for the items I wanted to add (6 CD for $330 plus $35 install labor, strakes, etc. at "dealer cost").
The car had 68 miles on it (was in the showroom), but was told it was "definately not a demo" - so I took the chance. Now have 1,000 miles on the car with no probs at all.
It was near the end of DEC, and I really wanted to wait a month or so - maybe they pickup on the fact I was not very anxious to buy. I think I got a great deal on the car (and about $220 off the normal invoice price of the options).
Others may do better, and I think it depends on the area/weather. (I was in San Antonio a couple of months ago and they would not even talk invoice. But there is snow here.)

Depends on if you're trading something in too................you have a lot less room to dicker the sticker if you trade in something.

I bought mine with the following options:

winning blue
GTpackage (leather, sunroof, etc)
Spare Tire Kit
Bose system

I got everything except Nav, accent kit and appearance package.

I paid 29,100 which came to 32K out the door. It was $250 over invoice.

These were the prices I was shown for my car:
- Invoice 29,262
- SPLAN 29,240
- Retail 31,904

My wife knew a Ford employee who could register us for SPLAN, and we were able to buy it at the SPLAN price. The dealer had been very helpful for the 3 months I was looking, found and retrieved the exact car I wanted from another dealer, and the service team "took up the slack" getting the snows on the car.

Since we knew a Ford employee, SPLAN was a straightforward way to reduce the price by $2700. Overall I was pleased by the dealer and price.

GT, Nav, 6 speed, appearance, $30300, which was about $350 under invoice. No trade, leased.

I was looking at a similar model without NAV, and I drove from my home in St. Pete up to Orlando with my dad to sign the deal. I called before we left to make sure they had the car and they said they did. When we got there it was gone. Turns out it was dealer transferred a few days earlier, and it didn't show as a sale in their system. So I told them either I'd hunt down the dealer where they sent it to, or make them an offer on the car with NAV. I offered $1000, and we ending up accepting $1200 over the $350 under invoice price negiotated on the model without NAV.

Invoice on NAVless car
-$350
+$1771 Invoice on NAV
-$571 because I'm an ironman
= ~32500 after TTT

Damn! That's good. I had to resort to my SPlan access to get invoice.

Now, when you going to make the leap?
