Question Need Help, First Time Car Buyer

Ok guys , I just made a deal to get a Red RX-8 , I did the whole deal over the internet and this is my first time to buy a new car . I'll be picking it up on the 19th ( I bought it in Dallas and I live 400 miles away ) . My question is two fold ... what kind of check list do I need to have when I get there ? I know there is things I need to check . Secondly , how do I know if the service from all the bulletins have been done? The last 6 digits for the VIN is 114588 , which leads me to think it was built around Sept of 03 . I saw a bulletin about the dampner recall , how do I know that it has been replaced? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Find out the mileage beforehand. Check the body and rims for scratches. Test drive the car. Get the quote in writing from the sales manager. You don't want to drive all the way out there and have them pull the rug from under you.

For PCM reflash, there should be a sticker under the hood if the reflash was done. Also, their computer will say if the car has been reflashed. If it hasn't been done, ask them to take care of it before you get there.

What are your chances of backing out of the deal? Are you obligated to buy it? This car sounds like its been sittin awhile. Yep check the miles, check the wheels, check out the silver trim going down both sides inside on the middle cup holder compartment contraption. Bring a flashlight!! I did and check for any scratches along the panel sides of the car. Hope you are getting this under invoice. Check Edmonds.com out for what the car is going for. There are newer ones out there than this. Check out the engine cover under the hood. Make sure it has all four gromets. What packs are on this car? I would not want a car with 300 or 600 plus miles on it as you have no clue how it was treated during the break in period.

.... and if you're driving it back those 400 miles, you'll want to vary your speed for the 'break-in' period.

CONGRATS!!! :D :D

That's a good deal Dr Rock. I wouldn't wait for a week and a 1/2. You can go to the Mazda web site and put in your car specs and find out what dealers in your area or where the car is coming from has the same cars and packs on it. I knew of one red, appearance, leather seats, weather floor mats, Automatic and a wing in Illinois a few weeks ago.

That's where my red car came from!!! Texas. These are great cars. I would check this car real close though. I think you can get one built like in June 04. There's a build date sticker on the drivers side door sill area to check this out. That sounds like a good deal though. Hope its what you want! It needs to go about 600 for break in so you will have that done by the time you are back home with it. Since its over a year old try to get them to change the oil too although it has 95 miles on it.

My dealer here sucks , I wouldn't buy from them even if they had the same car . I tried twice to buy one and no one would work for it , they wouldn't even call me back to tell me if they found the car I wanted . It's the only dealer in town and they actually wanted to ADD $750 for "fair market value" . Now all they have is two '05's Pearl White , one is a automatic and they others they had where loaded up and over 30g's . But , it works out well for me , my son lives close to Dallas , so I'm going to get to see him play football , I should hit the 600 miles on the way home ....then watch out ! There will be a red streak going down 287 in Texas ( ALL you DPS officers , that might read this , close your eyes for a minute)
