Need buying advice...wrong time?
Okay, I'm getting really close to buying my first 8 and the excitement is driving me crazy, but I'm wondering if July would be a terrible time to get an '06. Should I wait for Oct/Nov for the '07s and, even if I don't want an '07, would that bring down the price on an '06 substantially enough to make it worth the wait?
Also, I'm inexperienced in bargaining for the price of a new car. Do I nail down that price first and THEN talk about warranties/mods/etc or do I throw it all in as a package and bargain based on that price?
Any advice on the best time/way to get a new RX-8 would be really appreciated. Thanks!

You won't see an '07 till some time in the early months of 2007,,, April ,May.
So if you want an '07 have a nice wait.
You won't get "great" price on an '06 till the '07's start their debut.
The dealer has $4000 incentives from Mazda on the new '05's in stock now.
This is off of the list price.
This only happens when the next model year is out though.
Get the price of the model you want first.
Act like your paying cash to get the best price on the model with the options you want.
Then discuss money down.
Then talk trade in if you have on.
DON'T LET THEM TALK MONTHLY PAYMENT ! "How much can you afford per month"
This gives them all kind's of room to move the money around to their advantage.
check the internet for "HOW TO BUY A CAR"
Happy shopping.
Just paid $21000 for a new 2005 AT with the Sport Package last night.
Had to do some "putting the foot down" and a lot of the word "NO"

Congrats on your great price!
I'll be trying to get a fully-loaded '06 MT (without NAV) and I'm hoping to get it somewhere around $28,000 OTD. I don't have much to go off of except for the prices I've seen others get here on the forum and the KBB price.

I know you may not wanna hear this, but right now it almost a prime-time to be jumping on a NEW car. The 05's are clearing from lots for easily $6-8K slashed off the price simply to make room/get the remainder of the incentives. Prices tend to run up during the summer normally, so July may not be the best time to look. If the 8 were like most other cars that have new cars coming out in the late summer/early fall, that would be wise...HOWEVER, as mentioend, the 8 usually comes out early of the year listed. Heck, my 05 was made in 9/05. They really do carry them late into their production years because of that reason.
If yur looking for a steal on a 06 specifically, yur gonna be looking at well over a 1/2 year or so before you see prices slashed like the 05's are. It's all a matter of when you plan on buying.
Make sure you have that in order before you start looking...Unexpected things tend to happen when you test drive cars and don't have the finances yet. Your finances are optimistically higher then they REALLY are. Take it from me!

When the new cars come out, and the taxes on the dealer's inventory comes due, they will get rid of last years cars at better prices - they will swap with each other to get the color or package you want and sometimes they will throw in more goodies even ones you don't really need... If you are going to pay over time, check out a credit union - they often have better rates than banks or loan companies. Bargain and get the lonest warrenty you can, pay a little extra for an extention. All-State is a good insurance company and considers the RX-8 a 4 door coup with extra safety features so you can get a little break on the insurance - also if it is a second car or they carry your home owners insurance they can give you some help. Best of all they pay off and don't jack you around and they have a special replacement coverage for new cars. Go to a dealer or two that you are not going to buy from and get some tips from their sales departments... check out some books if you have time. Knowledge is protection.

I'm not sure if I can stand waiting much longer Ever since I laid eyes on this car a month or more ago I haven't been able to get it out of my mind! Waiting until early '07 seems like a lifetime away...

I'm in the same boat TKZ. Just got my Miata repainted and put new tires on it and it feels so good right now I'm having a hard time justifying getting the 8 I know I eventually will. Thinking maybe I'll just wait until the 07's come out and then get a better deal on an 06. The saddest thing about owning a Mazda sports car is when you have to give it up to move up. I still miss my gen1 RX-7 that I traded in for my Miata.

The only reason really it seems to get an 06 (other then the fact that it is newer) is that it comes in different colors. Other than that, if you are trying to get a black one or something you should probably get an '05. Definetely more in that price range. GLUCK!!!
I walked with an 05 fully loaded cept appearerance and nav for $25.7K as their ORIGINAL bottom line! Can't say it any better...NOW IS the time if you wouldn't mind an 05 NEW. Their tryin so hard to clear all 05's out that they'll drop unheard-of amounts. Mine for ex was right at $7K off the MSRP for the ORIGINAL bottom line! You'd likely be able to walk with an 8 with ALL options and packages except nav for less then $26K if you push. Go for it!!!

I've been investigating possibly buying another RX-8 (used to own an 04). Without any bargaining at all I contacted a dealer and was quoted $26,428 on a 06 manual with GT package only. Another dealer quoted me $23,722 for a 06 manual. He didn't specify the option package...waiting to hear back from him. How do those sound? You think I can do better now or in the near future?
I'd also like to gripe about the inability to find simply optioned GT packaged RX-8s. Every freaking dealer adds on rear spoiler & appearance packages around here. Both really detract from the beauty of the car IMO.
