Question Looking for tips on purchasing my first 8

After waiting nearly 2 years I致e finally gotten down to purchasing my first RX-8 and I知 looking for some pointers.
Right now I知 looking for an 06 or later AT with at least the performance package. My ideal 8 is an 06 Velocity Red GT with Red interior for around 20k which I am struggling to find mostly because of the price.

Anyhow, the primary purpose of this thread is for me to get advice on the car I知 currently looking at. Basically, is this a good deal or not?

2006 Phantom Blue Sport AT RX-8
Options taken: 6 CD changer
Mileage: about 15k
Price: 17.5k
Cons: really need that performance package

So, down to the dirty. First off, what should I be offering on this car? I知 paying cash so I知 looking for what should I actually end up paying rather than where to start the bartering. This price seems a little high for what I'm getting. Also, what signs should I be looking for that something is wrong? I致e test driven a brand new 07 RX-8 twice so I know how they should feel, but again, I知 not the expert. Lastly, do you think I could take it to a dealer and get the performance package added (at least the tires and suspension), and how much do you think that would be?

A portion of the original sticker should be attached.

Thanks in advance!

if you want AT, dont put the word "Performance" into the same line.

Check the history of the car, get the vin and go pull it at a Mazda dealer. Have a garage that u can trust to check and see if it has been in an accident b4.

Give them 15 K or you walk.

Sorry to disappoint. I'd love to get a manual, but I need a car that my girl can drive too, and she cannot drive stick.

I've check the history and it only had one owner and was never in an accident. It should still be under manufacturer warranty.

Teach her to drive stick. Seriously, the fun doesnt REALLY start until about 6500rpm. In the AT you are almost done at that point but in the manual you have another 2500rpm to enjoy until the buzzer stops the fun.

The AT sport without performance package has smaller wheels and brakes and softer suspension. Not to mention no LSD or traction control/stability control.

That asking price is a bit high considering all the features that are missing from the Sport/AT package. I would hold out for a Touring or Sport+Performance Package.

teach her to drive stick, is not that hard after you get used to it.

explain to her nicely, tell her that "its the same as automatic, except that you just have to do 5 extra step, and after a while you dont even notice that you're doing it, plus this is something that once u know it, it will benefits you for life, let the gas go, press the clutch in, put it into the gear you want, let the clutch go, press the gas again, there u go !"

When you talk to her, you have to tell her in the simplest term that she can understand, women are all like that, if there is one single thing she feels *confused/hard to understand*,they just refuse to try.

Well if you really have to get AT for "reason here", then give them 13-14.5K before title and tax. nothing more. cuz its just a *sports* trim. and its AT.

Alright, thanks guys. At least I know I was in the ball park for estimating it was worth around 14k. As for tips on things to look for while test driving could you guys point me toward a thread or just give me a few things to look for to help me talk him down? I'm probably going to go for a different 8 but the tips will be useful either way.
