they must figure its in the same category as an RSX-S or Celica GTS (as i do), but obviously more powerful and further upmarket.

I just checked with Amica, my insurance carrier. As of today, they do not have the rx8 rated, even though I now have my VIN (!).

They said they'll have to make a custom quote, which makes me a little nervous--

Don't worry, most insurers have to do this at the beginning of a new model year when their computers haven't been updated yet.

Amazingly, this can go for a long time - when I purchased my current car, a 2003 model in December 2002, they didn't have the 2003 in their system yet so they had to charge me strictly based on the base price of the car...

Just some interesting information:

I called for a quote on Friday and I was somewhat pleased. 1250/year
500/ded.
But get this, that is for the Auto which is what I want so its cool however, the 6mt is on the "banned list" They said they have a formula that looks at a lot of different variables like 0-60 times and so on and it came out "banned"
Just thought I would relay the info.
The Company is part of California Casulty insurance.

State Farm lists it as $341/half for me, (500 ded.) but I have other policies with them and a clean record. I made them double check it was the correct car and M/T... Living in podunk OH might help here too.

Yep, ditto for me. State Farm + clean record + other policies + podunk, USA = <$400/6mo :D

Just stop right there, you are fubar'ed, couple grand minimum in a heavy metropolitan area, don't know, if you live somewhere else. Sucks being young when it comes to insurance.

Don't know what it would like for you. You will get hammered. Call your insurance company. Get the car under your parents name, you will get a break that way

Since I just received my VIN#, I called my insurance, American National.

6 months = $ 628.00.

Not bad, but a little surprising since its only $8 more than my 2001 Protege. I still plan on calling a few other companies to comparision shop.

I got a online quote from progressive they told me $2582 / 6 months and it would drop 25% when I turn 21 (next year) which would be $1936.50 / 6 months. They labled the RX-8 as.. coupe 4 door 2 cylinders (lol i like that), driver and pass airbags and (80cubic inches). I also have one prior wreck, I wish the person had his eys on the road and not the football game that was going on acrossed the street, stupid cop put the fault on me because of "Failure to Yield" grr. I would kill to get $628 also

Unhappy $99 a month with Allstate!

I just got my 6-month renewal from Allstate. $579.00 every six months. works out to about $99 a month. I'm 43 years of age, married but wifey does not drive, No accidents or tickets in 10 years. and they classify it as a 2-door coupe.

My insurance is only $1.00 (one) more per month than what my 97 Eclipse Spyder was, through State Farm and listed as a 4 door coupe.

I'm paying $387 every 6 months, in Utah, $500 deductible, 40 years old, married with kids and a clean driving record. I was pretty happy with that, it is only $40 than the insurance for my wifes Mazda 3

I had GEICO with my '97 Eclipse and then I switched to USAA and my insurance got ALOT cheaper. I traded it in and got my 8, now USAA is charging me $473 for 6 months. I'm 29, married, in the military, only had 2 speeding tickets which are off my record by now, and I live in North Carolina. I pay $82 a month on the extended payment plan.

My 8 is insured and the cost is just over $400 per half year. We are with Allied, the Independent Insurance Agent's version of Nationwide. They insure the car as a 4-door sedan, and I am 49 with a very clean driving record and multiple cars (3 others) insured.

Good luck!
