Insurance for RX-8

I took the VIN from the Houston Rev It Up thread and tried some insurance sites, but they didn't recognize the VIN! Anyway, I'm guessing these little buggers are going to be pretty easy on the insurance:

4-door
1.3L engine
driver/pass air bags
side air bags
ABS
passive alarm system

I was wondering about the same thing. Will they consider it a coupe or a sedan?

$300 that's CHEAP!!!!

Some of the guys on the European forum have been quoted

£ 1500 ($2400)

£450 excess ($720)

These guys have clean licences and over 25 years old!!!!

This was quoted by MAZDA themselves.

YOU LUCKY PEOPLE $300?????

Cheers

I called Geico and got a qoute... $1750 every six months! So thats about $300 a month. With the $500 deductable, this was the cheapest they could go. I just got a speeding ticket though. Oh yeah, they consider it a 2 door coupe.

Geico's rates are always really high- have you tried any other places yet? They were probably basing it off the RX-7, like my insurance company tried to do. I told them no thanks, I'd try back when I had my VIN.

Really? Of all the places I tried, Geico was the best..

I dont want to post the numbers as they might get bombarded with requests and then wise up and change the numbers hehehe.. but the numbers I got did say 2004 Mazda RX-8.. and all I can say is that it was suprisingly looooooow.

RX-NUT,

You already let the cat out of the bag, you might as well give us the details

Also, if anyone else gets a quote can you give a bit more information about yourself, ie age, marrital status, points.

Danke, D-san

Did you get a quote online or in the mail? Because their online quotes don't have the RX-8 as a choice for 2004 Mazdas?

Ah, well, I guess it differs depending on where you live. My insurance company charges us less than half what Geico charged us for my husband alone.

well since the fire is started...., please dont go hounding geico about my rate.. it's the best I've seen out of most of the Hawaii agents.. and I would love to pay this much on a new car full coverage (naturally I'd want it lower, but hey this is pretty good).. I just hope they dont pull a fast one and jack it up..

Online quote after emailing them and asking about the RX-8 since it's not listed online..

2004 Mazda RX-8 = $513.80 - 6 month total premium

Just a few quick notes about GEICO:

1) They will not write you if you admit to owning a radar detector.

2) They make no secret of spending a fair amount of money annually to equip Police Departments with new laser speed equipment.

3) In states where detectors are illegal they also donate quite a few radar detector detectors.

Their stated objective is to insure only good drivers, thus they are pretty quick to dump policy holders who suffer an at-fault claim as well. (To be fair, so do most other insurers, but GEICO is blatant about their policy up-front.)

Just some things to consider...

Amendment to statement posted by RX-Nut:
Really? Of all the places I tried, Geico had the best rate.

I wouldn't expect to pay more then $100 a month. Try third car, no claims, no tickets, married, been with State Farm since I was 18, in my 30's. I currently pay $55 a month for full coverage on a 2 year old Accord. Ha!

Have Erie Insurance for 20 years; currently pay 1500/yr for 3 vehicles; almost perfect driving record
HOWEVER, Erie says hp/weight ratio puts it in a Boxster catagory, regardless of all the safety features I pointed out from the 85 page Press Kit write-up. After re-looking, they held firm on 859/yr, for this car; OK for MD/DC area, i'd say. Will pull Collision, which is a rip-off for older cars anyhow.

It's funny, I got a rate of $1133/6months and I was very excited. Living in Jersey sucks!! I'm 27, no points, no accidents, highest tier for state farm, and I'm single. Oh well, I'm going to do some insurance shopping, but they'll drastically have to beat state farm for me to leave.

Wow they actually gave you a quote? Amazing!

I have to call Liberty Mutual and see if they will do the same... $1133/6 months seems pretty good, but I'm going to get this car under my parent's name so we'll see how I do on that. They are going to co-sign the lease for just that reason, so I can get it insured under their names.

I'm going to give State Farm a call as well though.

I hate Jersey too!

State Farm is not writing any more insurance for New Jersey. My buddy has Liberty Mutual, and they have pretty good rates. I would just call a bunch of places and just see what they give you.

If it's of any benefit, I got a rebate on my insurance switching it from the 3-year old S2000 to the RX8 even though the value was 25% more! Admitedly it was a very small rebate but I'm half way through the policy for the year. For most people it'll work out great if they list it as 1.3L!
