I am a 60 year old "Granny" with 2 tickets and 2 accidents over a 40 year period.
One ticket was for going 25 in a 15 mph zone
One ticket was for having a headlight out
One accident was when, in an ice storm a fireman slid his car downhill into mine (I was stopped at a light)
One accident was when a maniac tried to play terminator and push my car into a swamp (see Thread "How did you find your RX-8")
I have Allstate insurance, which covers my house and my MAzda 323 (1993)
It only cost $100 more to get comprehensive coverage, $250 deductable for my RX-8, which Allstate covers as a "4-door Sedan".
Their coverage is excellent excellent excellent -
Yesterday I discovered that a squirrel had pulled out the fabric that makes up the fire wall in the engine compartment and then sharpened his teeth on the tranmission fluid container and battery cover. The parts are not that expensive, but my Mazda dealer said it would cost over $500 or more to pull all the front end parts and re-install the fire wall cover behind over and around them.... Panic!!! Called Allstate - No problem comprehensive covers this!!! Agent is coming by today and then I take it back to the dealer and it gets done without a rate increase. He says no sweat on animal damage - they see it all time where peoples dogs chew on their undercarriage or up by Mineral King the marmots chew on the break lines. Also, according to my buddies who took care of the Katrina mess - the houses insured by Allstate have been rebuilt - the ones by other companies are still in litagation over was it wind or water damage...

Bottom Line--Most insurance companies rate the RX-8 as a 4-door sedan or sport sedan, so insurance costs about the same as your typical Civic or Corolla (go figure!)
BTW--Lots of members on this forum are pretty suspicious of teenagers getting into an RX-8 before they've demonstrated the judgement, experience, and skill to handle a vehicle as capable as this one.

The irony of it all is that the car was discontinued partially because of it's unreliability... knock on wood
The probe is listed as my primary driver, so it's actaully more expensive to insure than either the Cobra OR the RX-8

Age 32, no tix in past 4 years, upstate NY.
State farm (with discount for homeowners insurance), $500 deductables
05 RX8 GT plus 03 Subaru outback sport.
Combined $145/mo
I cannot believe some of you guys are paying 400/mo for insurance! That is insane Even "right off the boat" from England at age 24 with no credit history, no driving history here, and in a rented apartment, I was only paying $100/mo for a brand-new miata.

If you search back in this sub-forum you'll find we have this same discussion about once/month. You might find folks citing insurance prices for your same age, location and situation, but possibly not. Your best info is to comparison shop on your own.
However, that might be moot anyway. At 19 will you have your own policy or be on your parents? (Side note - another member recently took tons of helpful advice from other members, then said, "Oh well, it doesn't matter anyway, I can't get a better rate `cause I have to stay on my folks policy.")
Here is something you can use regardless - do what I did:
1) Call you insurance company and say, "Will you discount my insurance rates if I take a defensive driving course and get a certificate of completion from DrivingUniversity.COM? Find out how much.
2) Take the classes online at your convenience (took me a couple hours total working on it on and off when I felt like it over a couple days).
Classes cost me $29.95 - saves me ~$25 every six months for three years. Savings might be more for a driver under 25.

Just call an insurance company and get a quote; or even use one of the many online insurance quote sites. What I pay for my insurance has absolutely nothing to do with what you'll pay.
