Progressive vs Geico
Ok, Im almost a year with Geico. Giving me Full coverage plus Mechcanical Breakdown(you can only get this when your car is new)
1729.20 (for 6 months)
Progressive
Same Coverage except for the Mechcanical Breakdown (dont have this, only Geico does)
1429.00
Should I save myself 300 and switch ? or should I give Geico more time to get lower rates ? cuz Im afraid that when 6 months(if I go Progressive) is up, progressive might raise my premium to something more expensive than what it is now.

i just got in a wreck...Melissa....is no more
I've been laying in a bed and Progressive has been up my *** trying to help me getting this **** resolved. Considering the wreck was yesterday evening, and the first phone call from them was at 8:30am. I can't complain. They've been more than helpful and on top of things.
Why would they raise your rates? With good behavior rates typically decrease from between periods.

I've had nothing but impeccable service and low rates with Geico.
I've never had an accident or even a fender bender. Only one ticket about 16 years ago.
Everytime I got a quote from Progressive with the same exact coverages and deductables it was always much higher than Geico. Just out of curiosity I called a Progressive rep to discuss it and find out why. He was less than helpful. Almost rude in fact. I never did figure out why they were so much higher.
I'm stayin with the gecko!

The said because the "questionarie" they sent me earlier. I put that I use "more" mileage now. On Geico, I put I think 12K miles a year. (work I put 12 miles one way, and estimate total miles is 12K a year)
On Progressive. they just ask how long is a single way to work , and I put 12 miles one way. Which is what, 5K a year ?
So I dunno .... I've been with Geico for almost a year. Im really thinking should I switch or stick with them longer ... and only Geico has Mechincal Breakdown coverage .... I dont need it right now since my car is still "quite" new (15K miles) but who knows what will happen down the road ...
and I know that to get lower insurance rate you have to stay with the same company for at least what, 2-3 years ? sigh .... and Im about to finish my first year with Geico .... switch around insurance companies is NOT a good thing (a fact)
AHHHHHH HARD TO PICK ! ARGH !

That's complete BS! Switching insurance companies to get a better rate is in your best interest. If you can find a lower rate with someone else, go with someone else, as long as they don't give crappy service. The last three times I switched companies, I got lower rates. I was planning on switching from Progressive to get even lower rates with Amica, but considering the quality of service that I've just gotten. I'm not so sure. I figure I should show them some loyalty, since they've been good to me.

Stick with your company until the trouble is over, then consider - You might want to shop some more and ask about help and service - I prefer Allstate - but see what works for you - and sometimes you can lower your car rate if you have a package deal like homeowners insurance.

Now is more like 70% Geico and 30% Progressive. because :
- Geico has good claims service, last time my father got hit, they have Geico and my father went to get money, took less than 20 minutes, and now my Father use Geico too. Not saying Progressive is bad or anything but, no one had (at least people that I know) them so dunno about them in New York City.
- Geico is More Well Known. and has a AA+ rating , Progressive has A+
- I am already a Geico customer for almost a year. maybe I should give them some more time ....

I started out with Progressive when I got my car. Let me tell you, they are terrible!!! Everything went great right up through the reporting process. Anything past that was the most horrendous service I ever had!
I was trying to get a large rock dent in my hood. I only had a $100 comprehensive deductible. They wanted me to use collision for it, since I didn't have information for the vehicle that flung the rock at me, not that I have ever known another company to care when reporting flung rock damage by other people I know. It just takes them more time, money, and paperwork to try and track down the other party and prove they did it.
Anyways, they kept refusing to sign off to let me get my hood fixed. They also kept wanting me to transfer it to a body shop they recommended, not the one I liked. They finally agreed to my $100 deductible to repair it. Then they said they would only pay for $200 worth of damage at the body shop of my choosing, and that I would have to pay for anything beyond that, which defeats the purpose of my having a deductible. The repair was just under $800 total, and this was the only body shop reasonably near me that could repair aluminum without replacing a whole hood.
I told them what my second choice body shop would be, and they said they did not have the equipment to repair aluminum and that they would have ot replace the whole hood, at a cost of over $2000. Then the insurance company requested they use an after-market hood, which the body shop said there was no after market hood available for an RX-8 that looked like the original hood or that would cost less than the original hood!!!
After much screaming, reports to the insurance commissioner, and finally getting one of the very top guys involved in the whole mess and then going down to the body shop himself, they finally signed off on my hood and said so whatever you want to it, take as long as you like. Basically, just don't bother them again and go away.
I think they are a little unhappy with my complaint, though. I was told that just by filing a complaint with the insurance commissioner it would cost them several thousand dollars in paper work and legal fees to remedy this. I would not recommend this company to anyone!!!
As soon as I got my car back fixed I cancelled my policy and took out coverage with a new company.

Oh yeah. I also had a difficult time dealing with Progressive's accident investigator when I witnessed an accident a few weeks ago. Progressive was obviously representing the guy that was at fault in the accident so they were unhappy with what I was telling them. A car pulled out in front of a large truck and hit it head on. Both vehicles were totalled, big mess. Neither insurance company said who they represented but it ended up being obvious after I talked to Progressive who they represented.
The first insurance that contacted me was Countrywide and they asked what I saw, where I saw it, and if I could determine who I thought was in the wrong. The whole thing was completely neutral in the way it was presented and the investigator didn't give any appearance of being for one side or the other in questioning me or their responses. Progressive started sounded on the angry side when I said what I saw and was trying to get me confused as to what I saw or who would be at fault. Like when I said I saw the car pull out of the parking lot into the wrong lane and end up hitting the truck they said "Oh really? That's what you saw happen?" and they responded like I was giving the wrong answers. Of when they asked who I thought caused the accident and I said the car did they responded with "Oh. I see," in a kind of irritated fashion. It was obvious they were representing the guy in the car. I just really don't like them. I don't know if it makes a difference state to state or region but they are certainly awful out here!!!

seriously speaking most of the people does not know how to drive in here .... man its freaking scary to go out everyday ..... I have the confidence that I WILL NOT hit anybody. but I dont have the confidence to dodge all these fuxkers on the road that just want to switch lanes(one of the example) without even looking !
sigh ....
I guess when it comes to insurance, its not really 100% about the price, yes its one of the MOST important factor, but you want a company who will not give you too much bullshit when you're in any accidents. and I had Experience with Geico in that area, so I guess its ALL good.
Ok, Im staying with the Gecko , swallow the 300 bucks differents, and see what happens 1/2 year later.

Well I don't have the mechanical breakdown on my policy so I'm not familar with it. So I assume from your original post that your paying an additional $600 a year for the mechanical breakdown coverage only?
#15
Nah, Mechanical Breakdown cost only like 18 bucks extra for 6 months, I never had a chance to use it (I hope I'll never use it !) but it sounds like it will cover almost anything to your car (if any part breaks), it has a 250 deductible. You can only get it if your car is the current year, you're the first title owner and it has less than 15K miles on it.
Hell Im not paying 600 bucks extra a year just for that ! The most expensive part in my Policy should be the Collision, which cost me 635 bucks for 1/2 year.

From my experience Geico gave me the most expensive insurance quote on my car. About $2400 a year. I laughed at them when they quoted me this. I ended up finding a rate for about $1250 a year through Liberty Mutual.

Geico spent alot of money in New YOrk, I guess thats why their quotes are mostly the cheapest.
My first insurance like a year ago, Geico was the cheapest, so I went with them. Renewal, nope, 2nd Renewal, nope.
but I guess I'll give them some more time.
My father got Countrywide for like 10 almost 11 years, and has like 100K/300K only for BLI , everything else was lowest, not even full coverage. and Geico gave him 500K/500K for even lower price. So he switched.
Oh well. Gecko Gecko.

i just gave up progressive and signed up with geico. moved to wa state and progressive told me i need a new policy but quoted me twice much more than what i am paying in cali bcos wa state doesnt subsidize insurance companies (to my amazement) as i was told. tried my luck with geico, amazingly got cheaper rate than my progressive california with identical coverage. weird....dunno how these companies calculate their rates
