Question Insurance?

I got a 04 RX8 last summer and got a deal for $332 a month for full coverage. (was suppose to be 220 something, but thanks to a silly accident I had the previous year it spiked) I am 21 years of age right now. My company told me it would drop within the next year if I keep a good record.

My questions are, how much are some of you younger drivers paying for yours?

If I upgrade to an 09 R3, would my insurance jump by a stupid amount? (I plan to ask my insurer, but i am just wondering if maybe someone here has already done this)

I live in Montreal, would be interesting to see if there are better deals to get out there.

Who is your provider? You could always check others for competitive rates.
If they said it will go down, call them. Mainly because if you are in the middle of a term,(most insurance companies sell policies in 6/mo terms) they may try to tell you that you have to wait till the next cycle. Check the laws, because in the US you can cancel insurance at anytime without penalties. If they say you have to wait for the drop because of said situation, just cancel and make a new policy with them right away.

I am sure that your insurance will spike pretty hard if you buy a newer one. I have a friend who pays 350ish a month for a '10 WRX, and thats with no accidents or tickets.

Its all relative, but i would definitely say dont spread yourself to thin, having a newer one may be nice, but can you really afford it? I dont know your lifestyle or any of the details, but that is always something to keep in mind.

If either of your parents have been in the military, check into USAA. I pay ~$99 a month for my 8, full coverage, near maximums, 29 years old, and I am fairly sure they keep internal records of my 20-25 speeding tickets over the last 11 years, although none of them are on public record any more.

^ Dang no offense riwwp but that is a lot of speeding tickets ~2 per year!

I am 23 and pay $140 a month. My rates dropped from about $220 6 months ago. I haven't had any tickets in over a year that would affect my rates.

Definitely check with other companies. The worst thing that can happen is you find out that the rate you have now is the best. I was with Allstate paying around $135/month for big coverage on two vehicles and checked around - Nationwide, State Farm, Liberty Mutual and found they were all around the same as Allstate. Then one day I checked GEICO and ended up at $95/month for better coverage (lower collision deductible). Dollar for dollar my rates aren't going to compare since I'm 36, married, etc. but you might still find a better rate if you look around.

Also, the OP is from Montreal so I don't think he can get USAA.

My advice... Move to a different country. Canada rapes people on car insurance.

haha yes, no joke.

I used a company called Abeco which is a broker who searches around to try and find the best deals. He put me with L'Unique insurance so thats how I got my deal. I am first driver on my car and they told me it didnt make a difference if I put my parents as first drivers etc.

253 a month... for 4 cars... lol

95 Miata
02 Focus
03 Saab 93
04 Rx8

Been with Progressive over a year and a half now and they've treated me well. I got t-boned at an intersection that nearly totaled my Miata a while back and they cut me a check more than enough to fix everything up nicely.

Im 27 and I live in Montreal and i pay 92$ a month for full coverage with 500$ deductible.

-no accidents in the past 8 years
-single
-18000km per year
-2 speeding tickets in the past 3 years

Since im from montreal too and I deal with brokers like you I suggest you look into telling your broker to hook u up with Union Canadienne

they are the cheapest insurance company ever. The second lowest quote I got was La Capitale there was a 100$ difference between both companies.

good luck and shop around

aight i knew insurance was expensive, but the quote i just got if i want my 2007 mazda rx-8 is wayyyyy crazy

" $1125.04 (due for first payment)
plus 5 monthly payments
of only $1120.04 each
6 month total policy premium: $6,701.20 "

IS THIS **** CORRECT?

im 21, just got my license
in school, no accidents, my first time getting insurance blahblah, all that basic ****, and i got the state minimum no added ****

I got 3 deductibles for; " Restraint $103.60
Anti-Lock $323.80
Anti-theft $54.50

Total Premium Reduction
$481.90"

how much ya people pay for insurance, cuz got ******* damn a year of insurance would be 12,000 and thats paying more than the ******* car itself -____-

I've actually seen a number of people on these forums that pay up to 500 a month for insurance but I've never seen someone who's stuck with double that! Shop around and see what other rates are at. I think it's the fact that you're 21 and just got your license that might be driving up the price though.

Just depends on where you live. When I was stationed in Colorado Springs I paid $200 per month for my 2000 Explorer. When I moved back to Indiana I paid $120 a month for my Explorer and my 2008 Evo X.
