It can be intimidating for sure. I suspect you got a few dealers near there as well. Let them know you are shopping around. Mention names of other dealers. Just come across as a frugal shopper but serious. If you can bring in paperwork showing approval for a car loan from a bank or eloan.com, that helps. You show them you got cash and are serious. Believe me, they won't let you walk out the door especially in today's market. Let them know you know all about the deals on leftover 2008s. Tell them what you read here. Tell them your torn between the 2009 and 2008 styles.

Sometimes they may be easier to deal with as well if you finance with them. First do you homework and get the best rate you can and pre-approval and bring in the letter. In some cases they may match it even though they don't advertise. It happened with me with when I bought my new Toyota 4Runner a few years ago. They nearly matched the interest rate that eloan.com gave me (it was within $40 for the 3 year loan so they gave me 2 free oil changes which made it a wash). But be firm, if you make a deal with the salesman, then they send you on to the guy who wants to sell you the extras like roadside assistance, clear bra, or whatever. Then you go to the finance guy and be firm with them. If he doesn't match the deal you got then walk out. Be sure the salesman knows this so when you see the finance guy you hopefully don't be bullied. If the salesman agrees to the deal, (and you agree on a price) and says they can match the finance rate you got, then the finance guy backs off later (wants to charge you a higher rate), I would leave as this indicates dishonesty.

I still would think you can that car for at least 15% off the list which puts it around $28k. Google some on list pricing and good tactics. Again beware of the add-ons like "dealer prep" and "paperwork" costs. You just say something like "i can only afford $28k COMPLETE", and let them figure our the car costs and add in whatever else they need to to make it to $28 (or whatever you are comfortable on). With winter coming these cars (I suspect) won't be selling out either.

Good luck.

Yay new car!

I just picked up my 2005 GT Rx8 in black with 45243 miles on it for $12,500 plus tax, title, documentation fee. It was a certified mazda car so I got the additional bumper to bumper warranty on it+free oil changes for as long as I own it.

Hi, how much do you think I should offer the dealer a 2006 GT with 7,500 miles on it assuming no prior major body damage? Asking is $20k. One of the repairs done was bodywork ... no clue if it is major or minor such as dings. I'll be checking it out tomorrow.

Nice ride.... you get it in NH?
I got mine (used for 2k miles) in the Boston area and they had a new one there as well on the showroom.

I am curious... will yours play home made MP3 CDs? Mine has every option but the CD will not play MP3 CDs. I guess they had different radio options I have no tape deck either which I didn't care to have but wanted the MP3 CD player. Seems silly NOT to play MP3 CDs.

I'm guessing I overpaid for my car. Although edmunds.com wouldn't agree..who knows..it seems everyone here bargained really well.

I just bought a 2009 RX8 GT w/ prem package and spoiler (auto) <-- yes its auto..yes i know only dorks drive auto..so therefore i am a dork. cost: $29,300 + fees and taxes of course. I personally thought the deal was good..that's $1700 below invoice (what edmunds.com says). I'm sure I'm wrong..anyway, HI.

As long as your happy thats all that matters. Different parts of the country are different. If you dwell on a bad deal you wont enjoy the car.

I just got a 04 Rx-8 Touring with 44k miles on it for $13.000. It has the aero body kit on it including the spoiler plus blue led above pedals on the door lights and behind the back seats it also has red painted brake calipers. I also got 30 days full bumper to bumper warranty from the dealer i got the car from. I think its a pretty good deal

Well guys, I purchased a brand new 2009 Rx8 GT in black this weekend. I love it. I paid $32,000 for it but I am happy with it and it was worth every penny. When it stops raining I will wash it and take some pics and post it up. But, O man is it a sweet ride!

I'm kinda looking into an R3 and considering we've had almost a foot of snow here during the last week and the economy sucks, the dealers are still being total ****** on the price of the R3. They're hardly budging from MSRP.

Potential:

08 RX8 Grand Touring MT Blue
I'm in negotiations and it looks like $30,000.00 +/- $500 AFTER taxes in NJ.
They're offering 1.9% for 60 months.
I'm already prepared to spend about $1200 on a set of 215/55/17 WS60 Blizzaks, and a set of TPMS Rims.

Any suggestions? Should I hang on to see if I get a better deal?

Thanks for all of your information. I've been pouring over your forum for hours now.

You guys have been incredibly helpful.

shiroitora,

I was looking at 08 rx8s and IMO 30g is way too much for an 2008; might as well get an 2009 with that money.

Also; Mazda should offer some "end of year" rebates or a good APR... look into their website.

either way, let me know if you have more concerns.

30k for 2008? you should either hunt for somewhere cheaper or spend a bit more and just get a 2009.

Thanks for your help guys...I'm struggling here. I have only 'decent' deals. I've gotten guys down to invoice price, but it still seems like not enough.
I'm looking for a) New left over 08 or new 09 when the incentives hit b) GT package c) Low monthly payment on 60 months (around $450/month). How unreasonable am I??
