I'm considering purchasing a 2005 RX-8 with 70k miles for $10k(confident I can talk him down to at least $8.8k) completely clean carfax and full service records. I have done a great deal of research on the technology involved in the vehicle and to be honest none of the problems(I'd rather say "quirks") throw me off one bit. I would be happy to own a vehicle that demands consistent attention. lol, I kind of do at the moment. I have a 1994 BMW 740i with 220k miles that still runs great, but little things keep breaking so it has become more of a project and I need a commuter to get me around. I have some questions regarding what to look for when I test drive it, and how to deal with the dealer.
Should I ask for a compression test? If so what figure do I need to look for? I have read 85psi, but I am unsure.
Should I test drive a brand new one to compare?
Is there anything I can look for that will indicate neglect or a problem? I don't really have experience in high revving engines or even sports cars at all so it will be a new thing to drive it.
I really hope to become a new addition to the club; there are many very helpful people on the forums. I really don't want a Scion tC but I will settle for one if I can't find a good RX-8.

Well, unfortunately the blue one isn't an option anymore. I can probably talk the dude down to 8k on the grey one. Does the fact that the grey/cloth one has a better carfax and service history not matter?

I've had leather seats in all the cars I've owned, the cloth doesn't really bother me that much. XD
I signed up for MyMazda and checked out the warranty part and it says nothing about if it is void or not. Where can I find out?
Thanks

I know i ghave the cloth as well and i love them.
I was just pointing out the options the WB has over the other one considering the price is so close on each. He may prefer leather and i guess in the end it may add more value.
