Help sway me

So.. first post. Hey..

Anyways, I've got an 05 subaru legacy... the n/a one
What I got the car I figured I could be patient and drive this friggen grandma mobile until I finish our GTM but seeing as some of the parts wont be here until july 15th.. I dont think it will be done by the time snow hits around here.

at 2200lbs with a midengined ls6 (from a t-boned 04 z06) You can see why I thought maybe I should just hold off on the power for a while.

Origionally I had planned to trade in for an 06 wrx beucase now they have the 2.5 liter and becuase of the awd. The only problem is they are so DAMN UGLY. I've warmed up to the styling quite a bit and thats still not saying much. My other problem is that ALL the dealers will not carry a bone stock regular wrx. They all have these stupid TR versions that are stripped to death.

Ever since that rx-8 caught my eye in that topgear episode (matched the e46 m3?!?! ) I've sort of wanted one. Now that I'll be getting rid of my stupid legacy in a few weeks I'll definatly be looking at them.

What I'd like to know is:
Is there a listing anywhere of the changes from 04 -> 05 -> 06?

Will 17's clear the brakes? (will need to get a set of snow rims/tires)

Does the rx-8 seriously have a CF driveshaft? (that kicks unending ***)

Do the non-xenons still have projector lenses?

Is there any kind trick that will prevent you from shutting the car off until the engine is at temp. That 5 minute thing is pretty brutal... I can't tell you how many times someone will want to go outside and start the car up to hear the exhuast or something stupid like that.?

Do any dealers still have leftover 05's?

Thats about all, basically I'd just like to know the changes between model years so I know if I can just buy used or if it's worth it to get a newer model.

Xantium....all of your questions may be less important once you drive it. I'm assuming you haven't driven it yet. I suggest you find a dealer that will allow you a little seat time to get a feel for the car under different conditions.

Just my 2 pence....Good luck.

I'd also like to know if 17's will clear the brakes, I personally don't like 18's and tires are much cheaper and have better sizing in 17. I would also like to know about CF driveshaft.

I can tell you that dealers still have leftover 05's i'm going to pick one up tomorrow at a significant discount.

As far as shutting the car off, I think you can get a simple turbo timer and just set that to the preset 5 mins.

Ya I was thinking about a turbo timer as well.
Can anyone please help me find a leftover 05 at significant discount? Going to be ready to buy in exactly a month.

17" wheels are fine. I use them for winter on my GT.
CF wrapped drive shaft
Better to take the car for a quick spin to warm it up...

I CANNOT find a leftover 05 in my area. I'm starting to freak out and think I've missed the boat. Seroiusly if anyone can find a leftover new rx8 (obviously manual) within like 500 miles of 57105 I'll be forever in debt.. I've been looking all day and my local dealer claims they're all gone everywhere.

If I may suggest you try http://www.edmunds.com/used/ and choose just the 2005 year in the search.

I came up with 26 different 2005 RX-8s within 300 miles of your zip code.

Good luck.

Na i dont like the attention the STi attracts (or the kind of crowd is it somehow aligned with in the midwest) from the police around here. Plus im sick of awd... you can't do anything without fearing the tranny is going to explode (and yes i know how to launch... "step on gum" bla bla bla).

Since you don't want AWD, then go with the 8.
