help! is this a good price?
Sorry about this question but i just wanted to make sure before i plunge into the deal. its a 6sp GT and they're going to add the appearance package w/o spoiler for 30,500. the salesman says its $400 over invoice, is it a good deal? Or can i haggle a little bit more?

This price sheet should help you.
Personally, what I would suggest you do is find all dealerships within 100 miles of you, either fax them or email and ask them for their best deal. They tend to drop the BS sales crap when you're dealing with them online as they know internet shoppers shop around.
Given how close we are to the 2005, you should be able to get at LEAST invoice, if not a few hundred under. I paid at invoice 3 months ago.

Well based on what you gave us for options Edmunds says the invoice is $29395,and the true market value is $30462.Now I don't know where you live so I can tell you much more as far as what others in the area are paying but to me it seems like a goo deal. Also color may play a role in pricing a bit.Good luck.Check out Edmunds.com.

How much better you think i can take it down to? he quoted me through e-mail and i went in today to check it out and do a deposit so he can hold it for me for a week or two. but he said once i put a deposit down to hold it'll be sold for 30,500 and nothing less. so i refused because i still wanted to haggle it a lil more before i buy it. therefore i said 30k and he said no, so i just walked out.

it's a winning blue, which is the last one on the lot. thats why i wanted it on hold, simply because that's a gorgeous color. the full package is (sorry i cut n paste) 6-Speed Trans, ABS, 4 Wheel Disc Brakes, 6 Speaker BOSE/Stereo/CD, Air, Cruise Control, Full Power, Side Airbag Curtain, Alarm, Tilt Steering Wheel, Keyless Entry, Tochigi Fuji L.S.D., ULEV, Grand Touring Pkg, 18 Inch Alloy Wheels, Moonroof, Leather, Power Drivers Seat, Heated Front Seats, Traction Control, Fog lamps, Sport Tuned Suspension, Spare Tire, Rotary Accent Pkg. and appearance package put on at the dealer w/o the spoiler. and i live in jersey.

They make money even selling at invoice.
Giving them another $600 is tossing money out the window. I still think looking at other dealerships is the best route, or getting a family member to talk to another sales person at that dealership and see if someone else is easier to work with
BTW, no need to list all the options, it's a given when you say it has the GT package.

Edmunds is out of date
Edmunds' TMV is way out of date with respect to the RX-8. The actual sales prices are much lower.
I ultimately went with a lease. However, if I chose to purchase my car, I could have gotten it for $500 below invoice. And that was for any option package.
Your best bet is to go to www.mazdausa.com and check dealer inventories in your area. Input your zipcode, dealers within x mile radius and then select the car and color. The site will give you inventories and MSRPs from all dealers within the area. That's how I found my car: Lightning Yellow with GT, Navi and nothing else. I found the dealer and sent my local dealer to get the car.
