Is this a good deal?

A dealer has offered me an '05 8 with GT package for $28k, which includes tax.

I live in Milwaukee.

Is this good or should I ask for a lower price?

If this is invoice then you are probably doing well, although with the surplus of 8's around, below invoice might be possible. Check against edmunds.com and then shop other dealers in your area. If you wait until the end of the month or even September (when the '06's show up), you might be able to get the car for less.

This quote was for the 6-speed. Didn't mention that before.

Ok...I was incorrect. Invoice on an '05 8 with GT package, 6-speed is $28,500. Edmunds added a $560 destination charge, so this brings it up to $29,060 for invoice.

Dealer has offered me with a price tag of $29,544 excluding taxes. With taxes and tag, the price is $31,311. If I finance through MAC, it's $1,000 less, which brings the grand total to $30,311.

Obviously this is over invoice. Any suggestions on what I can do to either lower the price or have them add a few things, like the mazdaspeed spoiler? :D Would that be asking too much, to throw in the mazdaspeed spoiler and a 6 disc cd changer?

A lot of how to negotiate from here will depend on what's been said already by both the dealer and by you. If this has all been dealer offers and you haven't made any offers yourself then you might try offering $28K for the car including the destination charge and any dealer "fees" (paperwork, administration, etc.). Let them counter from there. If they balk then say something to the effect that "there are lots other dealers" (that is if there are - depends on where you are) and get up and leave. They may let you get out to your car but they should come after you with a "way to work it out".

At this point you have their counter-offer and it should be closer to what you want. At a minimum you want invoice. If it's not what you want then you can tell them "that it's not good enough, can they do any better?" They may ask you what you are willing to offer. You can then say that you would raise your offer to say $28.3K if they install the CD changer or wing (pick one or maybe say both but you might want to offer a little more - say $28.5K). You may need to go round this a few times and raise your offer - what pace you raise it depends on how much you want to fight and how long you want to spend.

if invoice is 29,060, and out the door is 30,311 with taxes title and tags, thats not bad. i bought my 04 used, fully loaded with 7k for 26 out the door.

Went to another dealer...the quoted me with $29,953 out the door. Hmmmmm Interesting

How should I counter with the other dealer? Say this dealer quoted me for a lower price, can you throw in a spoiler? I would rather get my car from the original dealer who quoted me $30,311 simply because it's closer to where I live.

do you have that lower quote in writing? if so, go to your first dealer and say, this is what i was offered, can you match it. if not say well, i think i may have to take the other offer. let em stew on it, they want to make sales, and dont want their competitors to make a sale, so for a few hundred, im sure they will work with you.

throw this on the table, youll pay the 30,311 if they throw in free gas for a year...........

But is that a good deal compared to what you all paid for your 8?
