a dealer is offering me a new '08 6mt sport for ~21.5k before taxes & fees. no options, no performance package (no fog & dsc). what do you guys think about this deal? seems decent to me but not great enough to jump on. or am i just too cheap?

definitely a good deal. 5k off of retail, 3k off of dealer invoice:

2 years ago, I bought an 04 RX8 GT fully loaded with 33k for $22995. You're getting a brand new 2008 RX8 for less than I paid for a used one.

It's a pretty good deal but not the deal of the century. You're basically playing a waiting game and risking that someone will buy it out from under you. $20k is certainly possible in this situation. The very best deal we've seen was dter's $17.5k on a brand new last year's model Sport with no options, but that particular deal seems to have been dependent on using Ford financing. So it's basically up to you to decide how willing you are to let this particular deal slip through your fingers while negotiating for something better. Helps to search all the Mazda inventory within your personal buying radius. It's definitely a buyer's market but 2008 inventory is not unlimited.
