I went with my mom yesterday when she took her 2000 MPV in for its 60,000 mile servicing and an oil change. I asked the sales manager if he had an update on when my car would arrive and he said he wouldn't know anything until Mazda notifies him of a shipping date and then it would be easier to determine. He just knows the order was submitted to them and put into build order (I believe it was #23 in the build order for 2006). After that they, themselves, can't track where it's at until they get notified of a VIN number along with a shipping date. They build it in Japan, ship it to San Diego, put in the electronic components, and then they get sent out to wherever they are going.

I am a meat popcicle
So, the real numbers are:
Down payment: $1600
24mo @ $335.24/mo= $8045.76
buyout= $18285
tax= $1508
total buyout price= $19793
Finance $19793 @ 9% for 60mo.
Payment= $410.87 * 60mo. = $24652.20
So... Take the original down payment+ lease payments+ loan payments and you get:
$1600+ $8045.76+ $24652.20= $34297.96
Down payment: $1600
24mo @ $335.24/mo= $8045.76
buyout= $18285
tax= $1508
total buyout price= $19793
Finance $19793 @ 9% for 60mo.
Payment= $410.87 * 60mo. = $24652.20

Aye, I've been driving it for 3 weeks now. There's been some complication though....
Transmission problem here;

Gas Consumption here ;

and of course, in few weeks I've managed to scrape 2 wheels and about 4 stone chips. When the weather gets better, I might just consider doing the DIY to repair the wheel and buy clear bra to protect the hood..

Ah, so I see. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I suffered a rocky start too - failed cat in my 4th week of ownership, then pasted a deer at 55mph in my 5th week. Now I am at driving-break-even (12th week of ownership - 6 weeks driving RX-8, 6 weeks driving rental cars). Hopefully our bad-luck and issues were all front-loaded and once fixed we'll simply live happily ever after with our `8s.

Thanks herman. It certainly wasn't what I expected out of my new ownership experience, but the rentals are behind me now and I've had two really great weeks of driving and enjoying the `8 through the holidays.
Nedor, did you get your car back yet? Did you get snow wheels on it? (we had rain change to snow Monday night - good morning 4 inches of fresh snow!)
